ALBANY, N.Y. -- A special anti-terrorism committee created in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center will call for creation of a national identification card system, its chairman said Wednesday.
State Sen. Roy Goodman, who created the panel on Oct. 10, said the recommendation would be one of 50 to be made public at a Thursday news conference in New York City.

If it makes you think of Revelations in the Bible, you should welcome it ... that means we are getting closer to the end times, right? I don't remember Revelations saying anything about the "end" being an "option"
If it's destiny, welcome it, the closer we are to meet our maker!
They'll undoubtedly be a call for some mandatory sensitivity training for somebody, an expansion of federal control over various aspects of our lives, some nice big fat dollar figure for increased federal spending on some vague "restructuring and reorganization" project (they love those), and a bunch of other crapola.
Their recommendations are no more binding than they are productive.
Asked about civil liberty objections to national ID cards, Goodman said, "The Constitution does give the right to privacy, but not the right to anonymity."True... have to remember that one.
:-)
Goodman, who is also chairman of the state Senate's Investigations Committee, said the nation's private aviation system represents a "gigantic loophole" in security planning."You can load anything you want onto them, totally unsupervised, and these are not all tiny Piper Cubs. They can be enormous passenger planes," the Manhattan Republican said. "You load that with fuel and plow it into the U.N. building and goodbye U.N. building."
The senator said the universal identification card system would utilize high-tech microchips storing digitized fingerprints, facial characteristics and retinal images.Goodman said the panel had not yet decided if the ID card system should be mandatory or voluntary, but that in his opinion a mandatory system would "maximize safety and security."

I'd rather have an id card than have my social security card used as an id number as many businesses and my university do.
Well, at least Senator Goodman is finding a way of addressing THAT foreign relations problem, hmmm?
What a SMART GUY!

Of course, they hate us--we just might stand up to the bass-turds. The brain dead aren't smart enough to realize that the 'forgeries' will be even better than the originals!
Not on my watch.

I guess the intent is to make certain "they" don't hate us anymore? Right? So if we take away our own freedoms there can't possibly be any reason to hate us! Right??!!
It is sad to think the legacy of those lives that were so violently taken on 09/11 will be the destruction of our Constitution and Bill of Rights.
"A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within.
An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly against the city. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victim, and he wears their face and their garments and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city; he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared. The traitor is the plague." Cicero
You get the picture. Now couple this with the new anti-terrorism laws and the UN call for global disarmanent and s standing army to enter any nation they choose. Like it's scripted right out of the Bible.
Evil-minded outsiders have a friggin' lot to learn about terrorizing Americans--which, I s'pose, is why they come here to pursue their studies.

Crud, I sure hope so, -sue. I mean, it'd really, really, really suck if this was all for nothing! (gettinscrewedperhapst@tooed.CON?--Mercuria)

Actually the Constitution doesn't "give" a single right. Its a statement that governments are instituted to *secure* those rights, not hand them out. The idea is that rights are inherent in our nature as human beings, and that we institute governments to guarantee those rights against those who would try to deny them. But whether denied or not, those rights still exist.
More germain to the post in question, though, is the 10th amendment. Whatever items are not delegated to the U.S. government are reserved to the states or to the people, respectively. Now, nowhere in the U.S. Constitution do I see where the FedGov has any, *any* power to enact a national ID. That means that according to the 10th Amendment, they cannot Constitutionally do so, period, end of discussion.
Of course, for the command and control folks, this will come as bad news on their little journey down the road to the Perfect Police State (tm), but facts are facts.
If they institute this evil, horrid idea, I withdraw my consent to be governed by these bozos. Its as simple as that.
Lumberjack, check out Benighted's post. They've got their eyes on private aviation, too.
Thanks for the heads up Tex!
Well, I'll tell you this much for free. I will do two things (maybe more, but I won't go into details on them because doing so can now label me a "terrorist"). First, withdraw my consent to be goverened by these animals. Second, demonstate to them how easily technology is foiled, especially this kind of technology. I can program biometric SDK's in my sleep, and I can certainly reverse engineer anything programed by another human being and twist it to my own ends. Do it all the time, just for fun, when I'm bored.
The other items I *may* do? Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see. You Command And Control freaks, just try and pass this crap. You want to end America and plunge us into a Civil War II? Keep up with your Gestapo wet dreams.
Acuerda puerca, le llegue su noche buena!
