Soriano hit .268 and hit 18 homers in a year that saw one player hit 73. He had the lowest on-base-percentage of all the batters in the Yankees' starting lineup. His previous postseason homer was a opposite-field job over Yankee Stadium's short porch. And Soriano hadn't faced a better pitcher than Schilling all year, with the possible exception of Johnson -- depending on whether he took BP against Clemens.
