Whew! What an exhausting read! I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books, but I did read quite a number of books about magicians, witches, witchcraft, etc. when I was a kid, including the "crystal cave" books about Merlin the Magician. My parents were conservative and Christian, and didn't worry about me turning into a little Wiccan. I guess they were right! To this day, I have been unsuccessful in casting any spells. I haven't joined any covens. I don't even have a black cat! These books are fiction, right? Fantasy? Take a chill pill, man!

At least someone misses the good old days in Puritan New England. Let's all wear black, never be to frivolous and go enjoy a few sermons from one of the Reverends Matters or Jonathan Edwards.

You forgot infidels.

GAFL (Get a freakin' life). Can't anyone read and enjoy anything any more without some holier-than-thou Bible thumper telling him he's going to Hell? You're worried that someone, somewhere is having a good time, aren't you?

Wonder whatever happened to Yvette Mimieux. She did a number of movies for Disney then seemed to have vanished. Hope she's doing well, wherever she is :-)

I haven't read one post where it said I'm a witch & we wish to further Wicca or Witchcraft. We're talking about Story Books for God's sake, you never read or saw the story about Hansel & Gretel. How about the Witches of Eastwick, I guess you had a problem with Houdini or David Copperfield to.

Exactly. Harry Potter is harmless FANTASY. You get a grip, Marxwasa loser. My friends and I grew up on "Dark Shadows" and none of us turned into witches or vampires. I bet Buffy the Vampire Slayer gets your britches in a wad, too.
To: Zadokite
Hey everybody, if you read Harry Potter you are a devil-worshipper, moral relativist, or anarcho-syndicalist (whatever that is).
And you are also obnoxious while those who tell you what to read and not read (or wear veils, or stop animal testing, or take down flags) are all unobnoxious.

Don't you know it's better that kids
don't read if it's that worldly stuff like Horny Potter! Besides the Monkey Wards catalog (which works great in the outhouse, too), the only books kids need to read are the Koran, opps I mean Bible, and the Farmer's Almanac. No telling what weird notions the young'uns'll get if you let 'em read
The Saturday Evening Post and
The American Mercury! Blasphemy! They'll soon be playing Pool! And sneaking down to the dance at the armory... Libertine Men, Scarlet Women! Ragtime! Oh, we got trouble my friends....
Or as Yogi Yorgesson put it:
I'm just a happy Nincompoop, a Nincompoop, a Jolly Nincompoop
Smart people worry when the day is done
but Nincompoops have all the fun!

Circe, Draco, Hermes, These are Wicca names for devils and demons.
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
You really should ask your own thread be pulled..
To: .38sw
They are fiction, yes. But unlike other works, they are marketed to children, not adults. And there is a huge marketing machine behind them. Notice in this thread that any dissention is ridiculed and that is true with children as well. Anyone who disagrees with Potter is labeled a "fruitcake" (thanks OWK)
A witch's group in England reports a large increase in interest from kids which they attribute to Potter. A mere coincidence I'm sure.
