It makes it just _too easy_ to send them up.

All reading is educational, if only to `know thine enemy'. Comparing Harry Potter to Mein Kampf is 'mindless' if ye ask me!

It should be obvious even to people that don't wear tin foil hats that the books are about witchcraft. After all, it is about wizards and witches. The question that should be debated is: is it OK to allow children to read books about witchcraft that present witchcraft in a positive light? Conservative Christians in general think not. That hardly rates a tin foil hat alert given the amount of scripture that backs up their position.

NOTE TO BROOKHAVEN: Sorry, you're wasting your time. Thank you for a great post. As a recent convert..I think it's been about 5 years now...I still have some memories of pre-Orthodox life and especially of the glorious time of my baptism and chrismation.
And I recall one of my greatest experiences was that of having tools for my journey. Isn't that one of the most wonderful things about our faith? Couldn't that be something that those of other ( western) forms of Christianity feel a lack of, and maybe even seek in things like Wicca? Doesn't Wicca also have a great deal of ritual and physicality?

Just consider Pokemon and the obsessive nature it imparted to so many kids.

I was the same way about Batman and D&D when I was growing up! My nephew was just obsessed to the point of imitating Pikachu when he liked Pokemon. As I said -- when he liked Pokemon. Kids will tire of Pokemon, and they will tire of Harry Potter the same way I tired of D&D and Batman.

Mocking Christians at this site is kind of loopy. Without them, you can just about flush any future conservatives winning any sort of an election down the toilet.

That's the debate, my friend. You say it does embrace witchcraft, and I say it's a harmless fictional fantasy. And so far, not one person has proven it is a manual for witchcraft.

Just because you and "Up"Chuck Morse say that reading Potter is equal to witchcraft doesn't make it so.

Proof that reading Potter is witchcraft is required. On top of that, you also have to prove to me that reading Mein Kampf makes one a Nazi, and reading the Communist Manifesto makes one a Communist, etc...
