TERRORISTS TARGET CA BRIDGES!
KFBK Radio | 11-1-01 | self

Talk show host Tom Sullivan just reported that during a press conference Gov. Davis said he was notified that there is evidence that terrorists plan to target the Coronado Bridge (San Diego), the Golden Gate & Bay Bridges (San Francisco) and an LA Bridge (didn't catch the name) tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 2nd.

Ont other thing about the bridges... I used to be stationed at Coronado with a Marine Reserve unit... There are two bases there so I suppose the thought is that if the bridge was destroyed personnel would be cut off not to mention the folks who live there could not get to San Diego. Guess what? They can get around... just takes a little longer. As to the other bridges I can't say. I have seen the Golden Gate but don't know much about Northern Ca

It's an old Navy rumor. Don't believe there's anything to it.

They don't take the fleet carriers inside the bridge. They stay over at North Island. The LHAs, LHDs, and the rest of the fleet go inside the bridge. Modular bridge is fine if one moves it as planned. If one drops a couple spans via explosive, it becomes a navigation hazard. Could also cause significant loss of life depending on time of day. This bridge sometimes backs up to mid span because of the tools and rush hour traffic getting onto North Island.

I've noticed a really twisted form of civic boosterism appearing on FR where people make major efforts to convince everyone that THEIR local city or small town or building or bridge in their area or something is the best International Terrorist target there is and how amazingly important and strategic it is, and take offense when anyone disagrees :-) Like with that supposed plane supposedly dropping supposed dust on the day care center in Charlotte; we got treated to people droning on and on about how Charlotte was the hub of the US banking system and whatnot.

Could someone please tell me why we don't have a national curfew on Muslims and Arabs

Try the Constitution for starters - if you have a curfew on Arabs, you have to have it for everyone. Little thing called equal protection...BTW, the WTC bombers weren't violating curfew, they attacked in broad daylight.

Nothing in LA even approaches any of the SF Bay bridges in their lengths or importance for traffic and commerce.

The Vincent Thomas bridge, although not quite the size of the Golden Gate, is no small bridge:

It's also known as the bridge to nowhere" since it takes you to terminal island. If IT went down, it could do havac to ship traffic, but vehicular traffic can get around via two other bridges.

But the Golden gate would be more devasting to moral and commerce than the Vincent Thomas, and the Coronado would cause the Coronadoans (?) to have to resort to ferry's but no real commerce or moral damage. Not like the Golden Gate.

"You should be able to see that the Coronado bridge is on the south of the Naval base and collapsing it would NOT trap the Pacific fleet ... or any Navy vessel."

Wrong. Other than the carriers at North Island Air Station, the bulk of the fleet are Naval Station San Diego south of the bridge. Wish I had a dollar for every time I went under that thing heading out to sea.

Aye. 205 feet.

I advise you to please go HERE, click on "The Ship", then click on "Statistics". CVN-65 has a height of 250 feet.

I'd say the bridge has to be moved if it were to dock here.
