Wrong. Other than the carriers at North Island Air Station, the bulk of the fleet are Naval Station San Diego south of the bridge. Wish I had a dollar for every time I went under that thing heading out to sea.

You are correct. I just talked to my Navy son who is based at the North Island Navy base. I stand corrected, except for the fact that the carriers definitely do NOT go south of the bridge.

One more tidbit, he informs me, is that if the bridge ever crashed (terrorist or not), the middle sections were intentionally made to "float" so all they have to do is tow them out of the way, hence no water traffic would be blocked.
