USO Canteen Freeper Style
War has come to our shores. It was committed on American soil. We have been able to live in Freedom only because of those who have fought in the past wars giving life, limb and all the sacrifices for us to live in Freedom and go about our day without fear.
On September 11, 2001, that comfort, that feeling of living in a land that would not be attacked ended.
William T. Sherman said it succinctly, "War is hell."
The day has come for this Nation and its people to understand that there is a risk in losing its freedom, and in reality there always has been. We have ONLY stayed free because of the sacrifices of our military, our warriors.
This is about saving the future of America. Aristotle said, "We make war that we may live in peace."
We are seeing the American Flag flying at homes now more than ever in my lifetime. We are seeing the American Flag flying on vehicles and people wearing Flag pins and small Flags on their clothes. America is united in the cause for Freedom and for our country to WIN against the evil that came upon our land to kill and hurt us. To change our way of life and to destroy America which is US, you and me. To take away our precious Freedom.
This is the Freeper version of the USO Canteen. Where soldiers could come and feel a small part of being at home. It is a place where you that have family in the military can post a thought to a loved one that might be able to read it far away from home. A place where we that support our military can help support them, post to them, fun graphics showing the price in America and our troops. Poems, quotes, cartoons, or articles of how America is behind our troops.
Those in our military are our Nation's warriors. Let us join hands, fly our Flag and let the world know how important our warriors are to us....And that our MILITARY, our Warriors, are America's TRUE HEROS!
"No Marine was ever honored for what they received. Honor was the reward for what they gave." (Anonymous) CHIEF gave his all in many ways. He touched our lives and his friendship meant so much to all of us. He will live in our hearts forever, and his friendship will always be a bright and shining memory in our hearts and souls.

Hi, TGYC and Snow Bunny!
Am glad to have met both of you here at FR. This is a wonderful thread, and I'm having a great time taking in all the yummy snacks and fun pics (it's 2am and way past my bed time, but who's counting, right?)
TGYC, you're right, the cans are haunted!!!
It's getting pretty close to the 30th. (hehe)
Those Halloween cookies look great!
Snow Bunny, I do store my pics at PhotoPoint but they tell me that the server doesn't allow animation at this time. I have to copy and store the animated pics in a desktop folder, but some do not turn out animated.
All the food looks so scrumptious!

Snow Bunny, It wasn't really a USO Canteen operation, but maybe we should start thinking about going that way. We had a rally to support our troops in Fresno tonight, and we collected some goodies to ship overseas to our servicemen. We are planning on continuing these rallies every Friday night and we will be collecting items for shipping to our troops before Christmas. And these rallies are part of a nationwide campaign started by our D.C. Chapter, called "Operation Infinite FReep." I'm wondering if we should roll these events together somehow and include them within your USO Canteen effort? Sounds like a nationwide effort to provide packages of goods for, and generally offer support for our troops would fit fairly well into a USO operation? What do you think?
Here are links to the threads:

**I just played the song.**
Bunny, somehow, I've known that song all my life. I guess it was part of my up-bringing.
My Dad has told me that I'm inheireting...supposed to pick-up my grandmothers Victrola and her record collection, and that 1917 recording of 'Over There' by Billy Murray is in there!
Sweet-Gentle-Ladies, all of us knuckle-draggers appreciate your warm smiles, and sweet inspirations. Thanks for making us welcome. I love you all, but not all at once.
I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was! What? Did you think I'd changed?....Smootches, babes....FRegards

The Postal Service produced the stamp in honor of the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, according to postal spokesman Don Smeraldi. "We made the stamp available in the Washington metropolitan area and in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut," Smeraldi said. "We issued it in New Jersey and Connecticut because they're so close to the World Trade Center and a lot of people from those areas were there on Sept. 11. The Washington metropolitan area includes Northern Virginia, where the Pentagon is located, down to Richmond.
"We had enough stamps printed to supply those post offices," Smeraldi noted. "We'll have enough printed by Nov. 5 to stock all post offices nationwide, including the military APO and FPOs."

Good Morning! from a cooooooool (33 degrees) NC. I heard a local newsreader urge us to set our clocks FORWARD tonight! LOL!!!!!!!!! Proof positive that he and others like him are a few points short of being called "genius". Let's say it out loud: He's so BACKWARD. (His advice is bass-ackards.)
Some country ham, red-eye gravy and grits (HA) to go with the scrambled eggs would taste mighty good this cool morning. Any takers? I've got the ingredients handy "rite now" (Southern talk for "immediately"......LOL).
