Jets' Robinson faces weapons charge
Associated Press

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Damien Robinson of the New York Jets was charged with possession of an assault rifle found in his car as he entered Giants Stadium.

The arrest took place several hours before the Jets beat the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Robinson, a free safety, played in the game and was arraigned afterward.

Robinson could face up to five years in prison if convicted. He was released Sunday night on $7,500 bail, and the matter will be turned over to the prosecutor.

It was not clear why Robinson was carrying the assault weapon and ammunition in his sport utility vehicle.

Jets spokesman Frank Ramos said Tuesday the team will "let legal action take its course."

The players were off Monday and Tuesday, and Robinson was unavailable for comment. A message was left with his agent, James Gould.

Robinson was entering the players' parking lot at about 10 a.m. with his family when police searched his car, a procedure that has been in place for players, team and game officials and media since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, State Police Sgt. Al Della Fave said Tuesday.

A bomb-sniffing dog checked the vehicle, and "he reacted positively to the presence of explosives" in the back of the car, Della Fave said. Robinson then told authorities he had a rifle, clips and ammunition in the back, Della Fave said.

Police found a Bushmaster .223 assault rifle, three high-capacity magazines that hold 30 rounds each, and two boxes of ammunition containing 100 rounds each.

The rifle and the magazines are illegal under a 1990 state law that bans the sale and possession of many kinds of automatic weapons.

Someone might slip a .22LR into DiFi's purse for example.

Or just drop rounds all over, until the dogs give up on all the false alarms. Or just sprinkle the powder near the factory gates and parking lots. That kind of thing.

The problem is that ChiFi, Hilldebeast, Babbling B$tch Boxer and our Facist Governor, Davis are beyond the laws that they have made up for the rest of us!

There have been all types of police stories of how Chifi was packing illegally after she became mayor of San Francisco!

Hell, Hilldebeast's driver can drive past a road block, strike and injure an officer, and the press says, "Hilldebeast is okay and nothing about the injured officer!"

Let you or I get caught like you suggest, and we catch it!

Hell Condidit is still walking free after his intern disappeared!

I guess that you and I are samurais!

I can't believe how many people in person and on the internet have asked me what would be a good gun for home or self protection!

Then a large part of those who want a gun for self protection are stunned that they can't carry a gun concealed in their purse, briefcase or in a shoulder holster in California! Nor that they can't buy a so called assualt weapon to protect their families! They have not paid attention to what has been going on gun wise until now! A couple were really upset that they had to wait (the cooling off period) and have a police check. They wanted those guns on 12 Sept!

"I actually like the Ruger series better than the Armalite....:)"

Pure heresy. [Shooter 2.5 shaking his head]

No, you and I are just armed peasants. The samuarais are the LEOs and FLEOs who work for the Mandarins.

Hey at least, I'm an armed peasant! Better than an unarmed peasant!

Yes - so now we know.

I always suspected that the dogs could sniff out powder/propellents.

I hope you're wrong, but certain "right wing problems" could be taken care of easily with an official proclamation as "terrorist" groups. John Ashcroft scared the hell out of me when he demanded sweeping, permanent laws to fight terrorism. He reasoned that the war will be ongoing, so temporary measures would not suffice. If he wasn't appointed by Bush, everyone here would put him in the same class as Reno. Not that anything would happen right away, but as I'm sure you know, these laws could and most probably will be abused by future administrations.

What a crock! Can you imagine these types of restrictions on the first amendment?

Yes. And they'll start on them right after there done with the second.

I bought a Mini-14 Ranch (Stainless w/ composite stock & sight mounts installed) 2 weeks ago at the local gun show. I can't wait to get to the range.
Any mods you would suggest?

If New Jersey doesn't know SH!T about guns, why should it regulate them?

Still, if I have to go for a long fight with no chance of resupply, I'd rather take 390 rounds of 5.56 in four mag pouches, (13x30), than 180 rounds of 7.62, (9X20) in the same space at the same weight. IOW, you can carry double the ammo in 5.56.

Yep...and in close and intermediate ranges it has good stopping power. It's a fine round/weapon, but the freakiness has little to do with that.

I concur that, with no obstructions, and within shorter ranges the round does more than would be expected, but the things that the anti-gunners fear are things they imagine. Stand a .223 next to a .243, 30-06 155gr, or a 30-06 300gr and see if they can figure out which is the "assault rifle" round. They automatically assume that it's the biggest baddest thing there. Look at how guns are outlawed, and note that it's cosmetic. These people are dealing in near-complete ignorance. Thumb-holes makes it an "assault weapon"? Plastic instead of wood?

Armalite makes an AR-10 in .243. Now I know ammo would not be standard, but if it were, that would be a SWEET setup. Bull barrel, flat top with fine scope, drive nails at 500 yards and beyond all day, and put a real hurt at the other end.

A mini-14 is a utility tool, not a precision piece. So there is no point putting a big expensive optical sight on it which the rifle can't "shoot to". I'd recommend getting the widest best "red dot" sight you can afford and put that on. The Ruger can't compete at 500 yards, so don't try, optimize it for the ten to 300 yard range for rapid fire. Red dots win hands down there.

Also, take the sling swivel off the bottom of the stock and put it on the top, and fix up a simple sling that leaves the rifle "hands off" in the ready position across your chest. The sling (I use 1" green 'tubular nylon' webbing) goes around your neck, both sides of it hang in front. This is how pros do it. In this way, you can go through brush with your left hand feeling ahead, or checking your map, or opening doors, whatever, but your right hand is always on the stock and finger near the trigger ready. You can also let go of both hands in the event of a malfunction to go straight to your pistol.

You can also put your right arm through the sling and slide the rifle under your right arm to your back muzzle down for climbing obstacles, then get it right back to "ready" without having to unsling it.

Allow just enough slack when it's hanging level in front to permit the rifle to go to your shoulder smoothly, no more.

IOW, a combat sling is not some stiff leather contraption made to permit ultra accurate firing freehand. You will NOT be standing still and shooting! If you are standing, you had better be running to cover! The combat sling is there to keep the weapon attached to you at all times "at the ready" but still allow use of your hands for other tasks.

That's my $0.02.
