The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

And yet, the very thing you were asking for, Psalms done the way they were supposed to be, is there in our "rites and ceremonies."

You guys sing the Psalms to a Jewish beat? ;^)

So you would say we are all in error in talking about what we do here?

1 Timothy 4:12 Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
1 Tim 5:1 Do not rebuke an older man but exhort him as you would a father; treat younger men like brothers, 2 older women like mothers, younger women like sisters, in all purity.
1 Tim 5:20 As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear
2Ti 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

Hail, O you, through whom Joy will shine forth!
Hail, O you, through whom the curse will disappear!
Hail, O Restoration of the Fallen Adam!
Hail, O Redemption of the Tears of Eve!
Hail, O Peak above the reach of human thought!
Hail, O Depth even beyond the sight of angels!
Hail, O you who have become a Kingly Throne!
Hail, O you who carry Him Who Carries All!
Hail, O Star who manifest the Sun!
Hail, O Womb of the Divine Incarnation!
Hail, O you through whom creation is renewed!
Hail, O you through whom the Creator becomes a Babe!
Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure!

This is part of the akathistos hymn. There is a lot more which I will post a piece at a time. It says a lot about how far veneration can go.

They weren't all unclean animals.

There was a mixture of clean and unclean animals...perhaps all animals since it was a vision.

Then why did Peter look at them and say, Not so Lord? If he had spotted a clean animal in the mix, wouldn't he have said, Oh, there is one I can eat?

It was vision that Peter had, a symbolic dream, a trance. It means whatever Peter interpeted it to mean. But what is your opinion?

A vision was to accomplish the same as the real thing, only with out the mess. Lol

Well, how's about that, it looks like we have a Bible that's joined the threads.

Welcome aboard, uh.... Bible, I'm glad to see all the "Sola Scriptura" talk has finally paid off for us NC's.

I'm just not sure everyone here speaks bible though.lol

Keep it up though, that's clever. (^g^) JH

what particular songs do you have problems with? I am speaking more of the mainstream songs that most of us would be familiar with.

Songs containing references to the "rapture" but more particularly their meaning in the context of those who believe it is a specific hope for today. Songs that contain exclusive praise for Jesus without reference to God the Father, particularly in the context of specific beliefs about the Godhead today. The list could grow but you understand my predicament.

No beat. That's a devilish influence designed to stir up our animal passions. ;-)

Check out this page here for one of my favorite Psalms. Look for #7 "Shepherd Me, O God" an adaptation of the 23rd Psalm, which I find very moving. I will request it for my funeral.

1 Cor 2:1 When I came to you, brethren, I did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God in lofty words or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness and in much fear and trembling; 4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
6 Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom,
although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away. 7 But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glorification. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 But, as it is written, "What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him," 10 God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. 11 For what person knows a man's thoughts except the spirit of the man which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might understand the gifts bestowed on us by God. 13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who possess the Spirit. 14 The unspiritual man does not receive the gifts of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual man judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. 16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ. ;^)

Romans 14:1 As for the man who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not for disputes over opinions.

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

who believe it is a specific hope for today

Acts 17:24 The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in shrines made by man, 25 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all men life and breath and everything. 26 And he made from one every nation of men to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their habitation, 27 that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel after him and find him. Yet he is not far from each one of us, 28 for 'In him we live and move and have our being'; as even some of your poets have said, 'For we are indeed his offspring.'

John 6:
52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"
53 So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you;
54 he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.
57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live for ever."

How? We weren't told by Jesus not to judge, we were told to make measured judgements. We're called to be fruit testers. It's not just a word game. We must walk the walk if were gonna talk the talk.

That’s not what I asked you. I asked how do you know what’s in someone’s heart .

1 Corinthians 11:23-26

Brothers and sisters:
I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you,
that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over,
took bread, and, after he had given thanks,
broke it and said, "This is my body that is for you.
Do this in remembrance of me."
In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying,
"This cup is the new covenant in my blood.
Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me."
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup,
you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes.

I've always wondered if there were a place to find the Psalms set to music, the way they were meant to be.

Here you go
