UPI-- New York's top Democrat said the state assembly won't allow New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani -- who is barred from a third term -- to remain in office in an extended 90-day transition period after Jan 1. The Democratic conference controls two-thirds of the 150-member state assembly.
Gee, thanks. Maybe we should just tear down all the buildings, plant grass and trees, and give the island back to the Indians, too, while we're at it.
And when attacks happen in other cities, or suburban malls, or sports stadiums, your response will be...?
You seriously think Rudy faked cancer, dropped out of the Senate race, and went through a very public end to his marriage, all because "Rockefeller told him to"?
Yes these people really do believe such things. Ive had unbelievable conversations with their kind.
Heres a quick synopsis of their world view (and Im not making this up):
I could go on and on. They tell you youll never read about any of this stuff in any mainstream outlet because Rockefeller and the Illuminati control all sources of media. Somehow, though, they forgot to control the internet. Makes me wonder why Illuminati butt-boy Al Gore even invented the darn thing!
You are absolved of all guilt. (but don't ever vote for them again, just in case)
Let's say Hillary was term limited and her term was up...and she decided to stay on because "the people want me to"....!!!!
Politicians (or leaders as you said) are not irreplacable nor do they get to decide when they leave or stay if the law says otherwise; in this case, it says otherwise.
Thank you, dead. To think I've been blaming MYSELF all along for this...(sob, sniff)
The only thing that bothers me about it is that somebody took it up the chain for a vote in the state assembly. What should have happened was that Rudy made the offer, the candidates would announce it's consideration and then NOTHING would happen until after the election, somewhere between the election and the start of the new mayor's term the new mayor should announce his descision. Instead somebody forced the up the chain in an attempt to force the next mayor's hand; that's not cool and if it ties back to Rudy I'll be very upset with him.
After the voters get to see four years of Mark Green's NYC, I would imagine that term limits will be repealed shortly after Rudy's 2005 election.
Think what New York was like before Giuliani came to office, then add to that the horror of the last month, and ask what it will be like without Giuliani in the future.
You guys seem to be missing what the article is saying. A third term was never in question as Rudy turned it down to begin with. This is about his offer to stay on as an advisor for 3 months to help the new administration to pick up with the disaster where he leaves off.
It's more like they are trying to make it OFFICIAL that he cannot aid past the 1 month as allotted no matter what. This is according to Rudy.
It's sad to think that this makes you two happy. Posted by wtc911
Take your agenda and stick it where the sun doesn't shine, clymer. You assume too much and try to characterize me as 'happy' over the misfortunes of New Yorkers. You make a gross fool of yourself with that, newbie.
Sorry, karth, but that's not what you said. This is what you said:
Personally, I hope they don't rebuild it and I hope this horrible attack accelerates the move of businesses out of Manhattan. The workers in those buildings would prefer to be in the suburbs close to where they live.
Now, I don't think you really believe, as a conservative, that businesses exist to improve the quality of life for their employees.
But, the businesses are free to leave if they feel it is in their interest to do so. And NATURALLY, any employee from the 'burbs who would rather work closer to home is PERFECTLY free to look for work elsewhere--as you did.
What I can't understand is your wish for this city or any other to die. That's what your post amounted to, you know. When the businesses leave, the city dies. Apparently you approve of this. I love living in the city, so I don't.
I notice you didn't answer my question either. What will your reaction be when a suburban area is targeted? Will it then be a "quality of life issue for the workers" for everyone to move to the country and work from their homes, instead of risking their lives to drive to their workplace? Or will you be of the opinion that everyone should stand firm and defend their way of life?
Got a coupla questions...1) What is my agenda? 2) What does the date of my first post have to do with anything?
On a serious note, why do so many posters from the south take varying degrees of satisfaction when things go sour in the north? If we were not all on the same page more or less we wouldn't bother to read/reply in this forum.
