Rudy has done nothing but offered his aid. It is the people of NY who have begged him to stay on. I agree they screwed themselves by voting for the limits in the first place. But for the democrats to want to deny him the ability to simply provide aid in the transition beyond a month, is nothing but partisan politics.

I would agree that he has....however, there are rules in place. Those rules should be followed, not changed simply because I or any citizen wants it to be. If they want the rules changed, they're welcome to so next year.

Let's say Hillary was term limited and her term was up...and she decided to stay on because "the people want me to"....!!!!

Politicians (or leaders as you said) are not irreplacable nor do they get to decide when they leave or stay if the law says otherwise; in this case, it says otherwise.

I think you're just a little too wired on this. Rudy offered to aid the next mayor. Someone presented this to the state assembly and they chose to not make it official. In other words the next mayor is free to choose whether or not to accept Rudy's assistance, had they voted to accept his offer the next mayor would be FORCED to accept it. The next mayor should be allowed to run his office how he chooses without the state government mandating he make room for the former mayor.

The only thing that bothers me about it is that somebody took it up the chain for a vote in the state assembly. What should have happened was that Rudy made the offer, the candidates would announce it's consideration and then NOTHING would happen until after the election, somewhere between the election and the start of the new mayor's term the new mayor should announce his descision. Instead somebody forced the up the chain in an attempt to force the next mayor's hand; that's not cool and if it ties back to Rudy I'll be very upset with him.

Rudy will be eligible to run again in four years, or was the limit no more than two terms?
