U.S. says bus crash apparently "random" event
Reuters ^ | Wednesday, October 3, 2001

Posted on 10/03/2001 6:29:40 AM PDT by JohnHuang2

WASHINGTON, Oct 3 (Reuters) - The crash of a Greyhound bus in Tennessee on Wednesday appears to have been a "random" event unrelated to last month's terror attacks on the United States, the Transportation Department said.

The department believes "it was a random incident not related to the September 11 terrorist attacks," said Dave Longo, a spokesperson for the Federal Motorcarrier Administration, a division of the Transportation Department.

But he said there were conflicting reports "and we are waiting for more details to come in from the field."

Greyhound Lines suspended bus services across the United States after at least three people were killed in a crash that television reports attributed to a passenger attack on the bus driver.

my guess is he just got the wrong date.....i would bet that in addition to the cells of terrorists already here in the states that there are quite a few one-man-bands that are waiting for a signal to unleash activities like this....

The FBI would have police powers here anyhow. Greyhound bus = interstate transport.

Nice try. it falls under the purview of the NTSB. The fact that it had a crime attached to it "could" possibly involve the Feeb's but, when was the last time you heard about a feeb invesitgation of a truck hijacking??? they are interstate commerce too. But, the CRIME has to extend across the border for it to be a federal offense. Learned that at the Police Academy. For the Feeb's to move in on a case means that there is "something of interest" there.

There is also the interesting little factoid about Greyhound stopping ALL national bus movement. The news radio here in Minneapolis is now reporting that it was a croatation passport. Say what you will bunkie, but, I have worked with the feeb's before, this is being held close to the vest for a reason.

I don't want to incite anymore concern that is prudent, but to summarily dismiss events without giving them due diligence consideration is simply stupid.

Muslims/Arabs who feel they have been unjustly "profiled" in airports or aboard airplanes recently, or critics who are crying out against profiling or saying people shouldn't feel scared/nervous if they board a plane with 3 or more Muslims/Arabs sitting together should ask themselves this question and answer it honestly: "If I (as/if I were) a person of color, were standing by the side of the road in the outskirts of Jasper, Texas, and a pickup truck with 3 or more "good ol' boys" came driving up, would I be scared?" My honest answer to that is "yes." Would good ol' boys in Jasper, Texas be profiled by some of these same folks criticizing the profiling of Muslims/Arabs? I'd bet my next paycheck on it.

? if he were a terrorist, maybe he'd think ahead to wear a watch. He's probably a nutjob, but not a terrorist nutjob. Just yer basic run o'the mill, "voices in the head" nutjob.

Well these are just racists who are enjoying the opportunity to spew their venomous hatred freely on what they feel is a SAFE TARGET. They are, like all racist goons, cowards. RACISM, RELIGIOUS BIGOTRY are anathema to real conservatives.
Thank goodness for President Bush.

Oh by the way:

The FBI is on the scene of the bus crash. This has been reported by all the local TV stations that have mobile crews at the scene.

Okay, here's the scenario: September 11, this terrorist doesn't get to finish his flight, perhaps into the Sears Tower and his plane drops him in Nashville; he's stranded, can't cash in his ticket, so he starts pawning his personal belongings to stay alive, waiting for the word from on high (bin Loadin' high); his last few dollars purchases a bus ticket from Nashville to Chattanooga, on which trip he is to join in with other stranded plane terrorists now riding buses in perping a network terrorist attack meant to paralyze the bus transportation system. Random act? Not likely.

"Isn't this an OVER-REACTION -- for a single-bus-event, somewhere in the country. I can't imagine Greyhound Bus Lines suspending all bus service across the country -- because of something like this"

Not at all. It's a great move. What if they didn't halt the busses and there were more incidences such as this? Then everyone would be complaining that they DIDN'T suspend the service. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Also remember that the plane that first crashed into the WTC building wasn't an isolated incident. How many more tragedies did the FAA prevent by immediately grounding all air flights?

Re your #46

Small target? We're talking about it here on FR. If it's a "terror" game, they just stirred the pot pretty good. This is a national story. Everyone is talking about it. People walking in the door here at work talking about it.

Not saying it is a terrorist action, just that it doesn't take much to cause additional "terror".

[ ... ] his last few dollars purchases a bus ticket from Nashville to Chattanooga, on which trip he is to join in with other stranded plane terrorists now riding buses in perping a network terrorist attack meant to paralyze the bus transportation system.

Actually, I think the Middle East terrorists already scoped out the national bus system and they found out it wasn't practical. They found out that half of the passengers on the bus system were already scarier than they were. They figured that they would be "terrorist victims" instead of the passengers. So, they went for the planes.

This guy (today) just never got the message. He thought it was "still on".

Hey..., you can't get everyone "on board" in any "organization". There are some stragglers around.

RE: #37

Even though you have your facts wrong, your conclusion is a possibility. (The guy was repeatedly asking a female passenger for the time, not the driver.)

One ironic part of the way the whole terrorist investigation is panning out is this: Suddenly the FBI has become competent again, at least in the minds of a lot of FReepers.

..."Shall Issue," interstate reciprocity. Too bad so many innocent people had to endure such writhing deaths just to get the public's eyes directly connected to their brains...without a detour into "feelings" and on-the-couch self-proclaimed correct thinking. This is not political philosophy we're talking, it is the survival of our families in America, outside, moment to moment. Be a mensch, a Patriot. Pack appropriare heat. Vote...and vote "correctly."

Yes, that clarification has already been made and acknowledged.

Thanks.

Well, keep in mind that they haven't done that before. There have been other such incidents and Greyhound hasn't shut down their system. So, that's an indication of what I was *implying* in my statement above. It's that they know *something more* than we are being told (in the initial statements from them).

In other words, rather than me saying that is really an "over-reaction" -- it's in indication that this is a clue that there is more there than we are being told.

So, if there is nothing more than a whacko attacking a driver or hijacking a bus -- well, Greyhound has had that before and it's not been a problem for all the other busses running in their system. Thus -- an indication of "more".

Muslims endorse all that has happened in New York and Arlington.

The people are going to start harrassing them, because the people are going to figure this all out.

I don't give a sh*t if they are executives in a Fortune 500 company.

I don't give a sh*t if there are six million of them.

They all endorse this. They side with their own over non-muslims, and they always will.

And to find this out, all you have to do is ask them.

Muslims out.

(compulsive time-taking)

Perhaps he wanted someone to get suspicious, tackle him, stop him. It'd be a way to avoid having to go through with it, yet still retain "honor". The equivalent of attempting to get through a metal detector with an obvious gun...you gotta suspect that they want an *out*.

Don't they get it? Terrorisium is baised on random acts. That is the point of it and why it is effective.
