When I read Ann's column, I got the impression she was saying (at least in part), let's do to them what they want to do to us. Perhaps that's what she meant, but a lot of people are taking it literally. Just look at some of the people here that are. Not only that, but they agree with that literal interpretation.

Where I come from it was called common sense, I suppose "capitalism" is a good $.25 word for it.

So much for free speech at NRO. NRO is private property. She can go someplace else to express her opinions. She has no constitutional right to remain a contributor to their site.

Once they're Christian, maybe they'll behave like Christians--like in Northern Ireland, for example.
The Irish to whom you are referring don't behave like Christians at all.
They behave like false-prophet-following, blasphemous bloody Nazi islamic mass-murderers. And like what they are.
Moronic, gutless, psychopathological, bank-robbing, drug-dealing, lying, thieving, drunken, little-old-ladies-and-babies-arms-and-legs-and-heads-blowing-off, fascist, gangster bastards.
Like terrorists.

Doesn't anyone else but me see the "tongue in cheek" satirical nature of that comment? Maybe in the context of the article that would be more obvious. But taken out of context, I don't see it meaning anything different than what it says. Obviously, many other people see it that way also.

Compare the fruits of Islam to the fruits of Judeo-Christian inspired civilization. How true, the reason so many mid-east immigrants are in the U.S.A. is because they prefer the country that Christianity built to those Islam built.
Anne was speaking in hyperbolae, but the point is well taken and NR has lost another subscriber.

If I were a Moslem, the thickness of my skin might be relevant. As it is, I'm missing your point.

...but the problem is that OWK and jess35 are so frightened by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that when they see the word Christian, all they can do is go into a rage, turn purple, and spam the thread until it chokes.Somehow, you interpret 'disagree' with being 'frightened'. I don't remember OWK ever being 'frightened' by any discussion, here, at FR. Perhaps you can post a few examples to illustrate your point?

If you would clarify something for a misguided semi-defender: what precisely is the problem with advocating the conversion of Afghanis to one's own religion? Its the suggestion of forced conversion that is the problem.

"Doesn't anyone else but me see the "tongue in cheek" satirical nature of that comment?" Yes. And, it is a perfectly wonderful 'discussion' line, except that the PC police haven't the courage to defend it as such. And, like OWK, I don't defend it, only her right to speak it, in the courage of one who doesn't 'kowtow' to the 'sensitivity terrorists'.

"So are you saying Jews don't believe in God?" Perhaps we should parse the word 'believe'.
To truly believe, one must submit totally to all that he has presented to us, not jump ship when he fulfilled his most important prophecy.
To: editor-surveyor
But then they don't really believe in God, do they??? Your self-righteousness is breathtaking.

I just missed your point-- did you have one? Anne, don't apologize. No one understands why you said that. It makes more sense that the taliban hates and has vowed to destroy all Americans-- and not even bother converting them to Islam.
To: editor-surveyor
If ANYONE has read Islamic history in the Middle East and Africa (and I believe Anne Coulter to be one of those REALLY smart women who took avid interest in history that affects us), they would understand that the modus operandi of the Muslims, when they entered a country, was to utilize a jihad as a means of gaining 'converts' to their religion. It was turned into a choice between life and death: convert and live, or denounce and die.
This was how Africa was conquered, this was how Islam was ultimately spread. This is history Muslims want you to gloss over.
What Anne said was no different than what Jonah said. The only difference was that she was in a subordinate position to Jonah. And oh yeah, Anne is female, Jonah male. Sorry, folks...I am not going feminazi on FR here, but I happen to have the suspicion that when it comes to making bold statements, sexism DOES come into play.
STICK TO YOUR GUNS, ANNE.

But then they don't really believe in God, do they??? Nice logic. In other words, Jesus Christ Himself did not believe in God, since He was just a heathen Jew. Wait...wouldn't that mean that Christianity itself is founded on a lie? You are saying, essentially, that an entire religion was based on the teachings of a non-believer, aren't you?

I never meant to suggest that the first amendment is binding on NRO. That private concerns may honor freedom of opinion and speech or not do so is clear and I didn't need to be reminded of that. That NRO chose not to do so in this instance does not, in my opinion, reflect well on them.
To: FormerLurker
I'd liken it to Bill Cosby saying, "I want you to go upstairs, and blow that kid's head off with a bazooka!"
Satirical rage.
