Then I say to %*%&%$^&& with our media for reporting the enemies claims and foiling a rescue.

The possibility of it being propaganda in hopes of discouraging us is very real. Exactly -- that possibility grows by the second..it doesn't take long in this info age to produce pics...nothing on that front

Do not underestimate these people. Remember... the Russians were not successful... had heavy losses and pulled out. This terrain is not the usual sort of battlefield. Just look carefully at it during the news broadcasts... and winter is coming on...All we can do at the moment, from our state, is hold our breath...

I hope so. But remember, the muzhadin have a LOT of experience at "shoot and scoot".
In the Soviet war, they became experts at unassing an AO before the angry Hinds could reach them.
If true, the 5 prisoners could be taken by 5 fast patrols in 5 directions to prevent rescue.

IF this is true, there is probably a very good chance that their US command team knows exactly where they are at and are only moments away from rescueing them. That was my first thought.
Considering the source of this information, I can't help my doubts at the moment.

yes, pray indeed. I'm with you!

Something fishy here. It is about 2PM in Afganastan. These guys dont move in the daytime. We had dozens behind the lines in Iraq and not one was caught in months.

Until we hear from our own government on this, I would urge everyone to view any information coming from the Afghans with a healthy dose of skepticism. The stories coming out of international news agencies are probably just a re-hash of this one, so I don't think volume makes any difference in this case.
I will pray with everyone else, but these people just got a news report in the last 24 hours that special forces were on their soil, and voila, they've captured three of them. I am very suspect of the "modern weapons" description - very general, and reminiscent of "I'm just a cave man...your modern ways confuse and frighten me!" - a little too Phil Hartman to swallow whole. When they produce the pictures they say they'll have (try finding a camera in Afghanistan), I'll be more inclined to believe it. For now, I'll wait on word from the good guys.
There will be no "negotiating" with the Taliban, and there shouldn't be. It is painful losing anyone, but how would that look? They're counting on Americans not having the stomach for this, just like the Japanese in WWII - this is war, just like that was. As painful as it is to hear, we can't collapse because they might have three of our guys.

Words can reach us long before pictures. OBL and his gang know that electronic signals can be traced to origin, followed by cruise missiles. So the word has to passed by messanger, and on to a phone.
If they have them, it may take 24 hours to get a copy of a photo out, since the 5 may be taken to 5 remote caves for safeguarding and preventing rescue.

Dragging dead American soldiers through the dirt will set the US public on fire.
The captors would be better off sending the boys home, unhurt.

I agree but they will not live to regret it if they REALLY HAVE and do not safely return our men.
It also coulg be propaganda to make us distrust them as talibon is ticked they said they would be with us.
To: JohnHuang2
Just caught a bit about this on Foxnews. They only stated that an Afghan news source was reporting this.
While I'm not going to assume it is necessarily false, it would do us well to remember how Iraq's government controlled media kept reporting on hundreds of American soldiers were being slaughtered daily during the gulf war. I can't imagine Afghanistan's government controlled media would be any more committed to the truth.
If however this is true, all prayers for our men.
