Jazeera TV says Afghans take 3 US special forces

DUBAI, Sept 29 (Reuters ) - Qatar's al-Jazeera television said on Saturday Afghan security forces had arrested five people, including three Americans, near the border with Iran with maps of sites of Osama bin Laden's group.

It said a military source from bin Laden's al Qaeda group telephoned its correspondent in Islamabad and said the three Americans were from the U.S. Special Forces and had modern weapons and some maps of al Qaeda sites.

"The five were arrested, three Americans and two Afghans, who were trained in the U.S. Special Forces and have U.S. citizenship. The three Americans are also from the U.S. Special Forces," the correspondent quoted the source, who he said usually called journalists, as saying.

"They had some modern weapons and some maps of al Qaeda sites," the source was quoted as saying. "They were on a reconnassiance mission to know the territory of al Qaeda".

Add to the "modern weapons" digital cameras, laptops, etc.

They were probably loaded down like pack mules with all their "modern weapons", and were taken by Afghans in sandals carrying AK-47s and the typical 3 mags each.

I am as well.It sounds like propaganda.I won't believe it till the Pentagon confirms. I think our news itches for stories like these. They are reporting that THE enemy is reporting.

I wonder why Christiane Amanpour of CNN isn't there reporting the enemies propaganda and filming delta force live. sheeeeeeesh.....if this were true this WOULD be happening!

The possibility of it being propaganda in hopes of discouraging us is very real.

In that situation, you fight until they kill you.

Our young SF troops have not seen a shot fired in anger, the Afghans have been playing ground combat on their home turf for 20 years straight. Our guys may have been spotted coming up the trail miles away, time enough to put a great ambush on the trail, so good that it is not required to kill, just stand up with 20 or so rifles pointing at your 5 guys. A "gotcha".

Those would be modern weapons to the US forces also.

If they were near the Iran Border it wouldn't surprise me at all if the ragheads alerted the taliban to their presence. I have thought it a mistake to reach out to the arabists.
