As a former vocal pedagoy teacher (teaching voice), I told him his vocal quality sounded like he was trying to change the position of his larynx to possibly relieve pressure on the vocal cords to eliminate some of the rasp that had previously appreared in his voice. I suggested he work with a qualified vocal coach - but that if he was working with a coach and this "new" voice was the recommendation of the coach, he needed to get a new coach. What he was doing was not healthy and would ultimately result in more vocal problems. I heard something similar to this about Walter Cronkite. His broadcast voice was abnormal to his real voice. He ended up having polyps removed from his vocal cords.
