For the third time in a month Rush mentioned the e-mails about his voice change. He said "There is nothing wrong with my voice. You people should have your radios repaired or buy a BOSE unit". Rush is bugging me too. This is my first post please be kind.

wouldn't that raise it rather than lower it?

His material is as usual excellent. His voice is like listening to finger nails on a blackboard. I know, I know I can change my channel no one is forcing me to listen.

Maybe his advertisers know something. Seems like when I used to hear him regularly, commercials seem to be directed to those having problems with sex or baldness. Wonder if is still the same.

His voice IS different. It is unmistakable. But I think I know the reason why. They have used some software to compress the audio timespan in order to squeeze out an extra minute or two per hour. Capitalistic motives should never be questioned, but on the other hand, he should be up front about it.

Has he been replaced? < / paranoia>

Let's see....If that many people are hearing the same thing, that means that there is something wrong with their radios.....
This is like the mother watching her son in the marching band and saying, "Gee, everyone is out of step except Willie."

I have not missed his show for years and he doesn't sound ANY different to me at all. Keep it up Rush!!

Agreed. I hadn't been able to listen to him for awhile, and turned him on a week or so ago. It's like he's trying to sound pompous, and its hugely irritating. Every once in a while his voice would slip back to his usual sound, and the relief was palpable.

Its very easy to notice. Compare his real-time voice to a commercial or announcement he recorded some time ago. The real-time version is definitely a deeper timbre. He also doesn't seem to enunciate his words as clearly as in the past. I tried this with three different radios (car, at work, and at home) and they all came out the same. I find it hard to believe that all three are defective. Anyone out there have a harmonic analyzer? I used to have one in the physics lab but it broke down last year and I haven't been able to repair it yet. (Yes, sometimes I have some extra time on my hands...)

Lately he's been sounding like Ted Baxter's "on air" voice on 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show".

I have not missed his show for years and he doesn't sound ANY different to me at all. Keep it up Rush!! Seriously, I don't get to listen that often and I tuned in the other day. It wasn't super obvious but his voice did sound lower. I could see how a gradual change might not be noticed. It seems from the postings above that it has been noticed by folks who don't get a chance to tune in all the time. BTW, you can check the record and see that I am not a Rush basher - I just thought this thread was curious given that I thought I noticed a slight change.

Has he been replaced? I think it's Janet Reno sitting there at the mike....

His material is okay when he talks about something of substance. I really don't care about his physical for insurance purposes. Doesn't Rush realize that there are more important issues on the minds of conservatives these days??!!
To: OneidaM
No he doesn't babe...haven't you noticed that rather HOITY TOITY pitch to his voice lately?? Almost W.F. Buckleyish??? I thought the same thing..............maybe he's re-reading ALL of W.F. Buckley's books and it just rubs off!!

He sounds freakin' awful.....he must be nuts to go on the radio sounding like that. Rush is doomed.

I don't care what he says, he's either lowering it on his own, they're doing something through the soundboard or he's got something medical going on.
It's different, whether he wants to admit it or not.
