Rush mentions complaints about his voice again.

For the third time in a month Rush mentioned the e-mails about his voice change. He said "There is nothing wrong with my voice. You people should have your radios repaired or buy a BOSE unit". Rush is bugging me too. This is my first post please be kind.

Aristocractic is what I thought too when I heard him today. That is not even close to the voice I remember and I have always listened on the same raido so his Bose comment doesn't hold water. Doesn't even sound like Rush except on an occasional word!

I sent him an email about his vocal technique. As a former vocal pedagoy teacher (teaching voice), I told him his vocal quality sounded like he was trying to change the position of his larynx to possibly relieve pressure on the vocal cords to eliminate some of the rasp that had previously appreared in his voice. I suggested he work with a qualified vocal coach - but that if he was working with a coach and this "new" voice was the recommendation of the coach, he needed to get a new coach. What he was doing was not healthy and would ultimately result in more vocal problems. A person who uses his speaking voice as much as Rush does, should receive the same vocal training of a professional singer or the mechanism will be harmed.

Yeah!!!! Anyone else remember a year or so ago, he was slurring his words and he came on the next day saying that something was wrong with their satellite uplink or something? I distinctly remember comparing his speech to my father's speech after his first mild stroke.

I haven't listened to him in a while, but if his voice is changing again, Rush may want to have a cranial CAT scan.

I hadn't listened for a while and when I tuned in, I thought the original Tom Servo (from the first version of MST3K) was pinch-hitting for him. I kept listening to make sure it was Rush! I'm a musician and my ears don't lie!

Listening to second hour and his voice is closer to normal. In the prior hour he sounded ?"Bombastic"?

Is that a good definition?

He sounded like an actor trying to pull off an aristocrat immitation.

Ding! Ding! Ding! You have won the prize sir! In years past, Rush would occasionally slip into this voice for effect. Now, he rarely slips out of it.

After a certain amount of "puffing out ones chest," the diaphragm stays permanently stretched, so as to facilitate the desired illusion of aristocracy.

Rush is wrong! My wife is an infrequent listener. Out of the blue yesterday or the day before, she asked me if Rush's voice sounded different (I think she said he was trying to sound deeper.)

I've noted it as well.

He is speaking in a very irritating, pontificatory manner.

Perhaps he has finally so filled up with himself (new monster $$$ contract and all) that his rapidly mutating "SELF" has forced his voice up out of his diaphram into his throat.

He's blaming it on our radios and says we need to get our radios checked. But all of our radios go bad at once, and ONLY for his show? He sounds an octave lower to me, too.

I don't listen much to Rush anymore but I tuned in the other day and thought his voice sounded "slowed down" and a tad lower. It also sounds like he has become a bit snooty. Hanging with the "in crowd" may have corrupted him. Too bad..Rush was a great show host.

I've listened to Rush since 1989, and probably will as long as he's on.

But I've noticed it too. Doesn't seem lower to me at all, quite the opposite.

Rush sounds like an old man, in pain.

I'm serious, not bashing. I wonder what's up. Seemed to me to start when he started losing weight, shortly after his marriage.

I remember vividly the very first time I heard him. The first thing that stopped me from surfing the dial was this great, big, jovial, vibrant, happy, booming voice.

Sure wouldn't use any of those words now. )c8

But I still enjoy his commentary, more often than not.

Dan

I suspect that some stations have been electronically adjusting Rushe's feed to eliminate pauses and speed up his voice, thereby squeezing in more time for local commercials. This will cause some distortion of the voice depending on the expertise of the station.

Lately he's been sounding like Ted Baxter's "on air" voice on 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show".

Hold it! The judges are considering this to be a winner also!
