Neil Young sings IMAGINE at Hollywood show for victims
Fox News | 9-21-01 | None

This morning on Fox News, they ended a segment with a clip of Neil Young, in his old cowboy hat, singing IMAGINE. This was at last nite's show in Hollywood to presumably benefit the families of the victims of the act of war in New York.

For a lot of people like Neil Young, the philosophy of "Imagine"--smarmy, infantile, can't-we-all-just-get-along humanitarianism--is the pinnacle of what they mean by "spirituality."

The most inappropriate thing I heard last night was when one of the host, I think it was Tom Hanks...mentioned the "terrible ACCIDENT in New York."

ACCIDENT? What a buffoon!

I concur. Mr. Young just went down a couple of notches in my book.

I checked back again and there was Lucy Loo blathering on about racism. Can these people not do anything without injecting racism in it?

I am glad I did not watch the show, which was intentional as I did not want to get angry at any of them.

I read a book instead.

It appears Hollywood has pulled a bait and switch. The money will not go to help NYC. I was suspicious when I saw it was to go to United Way. Page six is reporting Joan Rivers boycotted ths show because it is to go to victims of "intolerance". One presumes it could be used to help the Muslim community fight back with lawyers etc.against the FBI investigators. Joan Rivers says no money is going to be sent to NYC. The movies industry used the destruction of the twin towers in order to convince people to donate but will use the money for their "human rights" causes.

I thought I heard "incident" although that is what I would have expected and my mind might have translated "accident" into "incident."

. By religion he meant the organized variety that we see in Wackostan, not true spiritualness

Yaddayaddayadda.

Why would you get angry at them? You don't think it's a good cause? Donating their time in very short notice to raise millions of dollars for the victims?

I don't understand how anyone would disapprove of the show. I think people are letting their biases get in the way in this time of need.

The attack on the WTC is a refutation of all the leftist ideology of these "entertainers." Floating candles down a river and singing peace songs doesn't make the world one. Evil is real. Ben Laden doesn't need a 12 Step program, he needs a Final Exit visit from the US Delta Force.

Check out Lucianne. The money is not going to NYC. Joan Rivers pulled out of the show when she realized the money raised in the name of NYC would go to pet liberal causes and not the victims.

Oh...maybe you are right.

I was reading something when I heard him say - what I thought was the word "accident"...you are probably right...he probably did say "incident"...because the word accident would have been too inappropriate, even for hollywood.

Thanks

Got a link? According to Fox News:

"the show was a telethon to raise money for victims of the World Trade Center disaster"

Neil Young is basically one of many Bob Dylan imatators. And there is simply no substitute for the real thing.

Exhibit A:

Every Grain of Sand by Bob Dylan

In the time of my confession, in the hour of my deepest need
When the pool of tears beneath my feet flood every newborn seed
There's a dyin' voice within me reaching out somewhere,
Toiling in the danger and in the morals of despair.

Don't have the inclination to look back on any mistake,
Like Cain, I now behold this chain of events that I must break.
In the fury of the moment I can see the Master's hand
In every leaf that trembles, in every grain of sand.

Oh, the flowers of indulgence and the weeds of yesteryear,
Like criminals, they have choked the breath of conscience and good cheer.
The sun beat down upon the steps of time to light the way
To ease the pain of idleness and the memory of decay.

I gaze into the doorway of temptation's angry flame
And every time I pass that way I always hear my name.
Then onward in my journey I come to understand
That every hair is numbered like every grain of sand.

I have gone from rags to riches in the sorrow of the night
In the violence of a summer's dream, in the chill of a wintry light,
In the bitter dance of loneliness fading into space,
In the broken mirror of innocence on each forgotten face.

I hear the ancient footsteps like the motion of the sea
Sometimes I turn, there's someone there, other times it's only me.
I am hanging in the balance of the reality of man
Like every sparrow falling, like every grain of sand.

Exhibit B:

Ring Them Bells by Bob Dylan

Ring them bells, ye heathen
From the city that dreams,
Ring them bells from the sanctuaries
Cross the valleys and streams,
For they're deep and they're wide
And the world's on its side
And time is running backwards
And so is the bride.

Ring them bells St. Peter
Where the four winds blow,
Ring them bells with an iron hand
So the people will know.
Oh it's rush hour now
On the wheel and the plow
And the sun is going down
Upon the sacred cow.

Ring them bells Sweet Martha,
For the poor man's son,
Ring them bells so the world will know
That God is one.
Oh the shepherd is asleep
Where the willows weep
And the mountains are filled
With lost sheep.

Ring them bells for the blind and the deaf,
Ring them bells for all of us who are left,
Ring them bells for the chosen few
Who will judge the many when the game is through.
Ring them bells, for the time that flies,
For the child that cries
When innocence dies.

Ring them bells St. Catherine
From the top of the room,
Ring them from the fortress
For the lilies that bloom.
Oh the lines are long
And the fighting is strong
And they're breaking down the distance
Between right and wrong.

There was a report here on that- seems the mooney in the event Rivers was solicited to jin is to go towards PC 'understanding of minority issues and tolerances, and anti-racism efforts.

Has anybody considered, such as in the case of the airlines people, that their unemployment benefits will exceed the pay of the troops we're sending? Anybody thought about helping the troops in what lies ahead? No- the libs are worried about tolerance.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse is as close to a Perfect Rock&Roll band as you can get. I know I have seen them a few times.

If I hear Imagine again I'm gonna puke. We all know the best Beatles song was back in the USSR,,, Right? :)

I agree 100%. And I am not trying to make excuses for Hankie-boy, either.

All political posturing aside, Lynyrd Skynyrd--the entire band--couldn't tie Neil Young's shoelaces when it comes to songwriting ability.

I don't agree with Young's politics, but I have always been a fan.
