Neil Young sings IMAGINE at Hollywood show for victims
Fox News | 9-21-01 | None

This morning on Fox News, they ended a segment with a clip of Neil Young, in his old cowboy hat, singing IMAGINE. This was at last nite's show in Hollywood to presumably benefit the families of the victims of the act of war in New York.

Thanks for the concern, by the way. In addition to being a bloodthirsty VRWC member and a proud warmonger, I'm also a VERY proud Naval Aircrewman.

Yea, I remember those good 'ole days ! Actually, I was never a big Neil Young fan or Lennon fan. Back in those days I was listening to Sabbath, Dio, Scorpions, etc... But recently I've taken more of a liking to his (Young) music than in the past. My tastes have changed as my age has gone up, from a heavy metal kinda guy to more of a mellow rock type guy. I also like some of the new alternative stuff...

In this world, peace is achieved by struggle and maintained by force or threat of force. It lasts only as long as the good guys are on top. We're the good guys. Some vicious idealogues from the Middle-East want to topple us. Good intentions and peace slogans don't even register on their radar.

You are unfortunetly correct. All I meant was that Lennon was an idealist. Ideally, all people would chill out and none of this would have happened. Obviously, this is an imperfect world, and there will always be evil.

Lennon was a dreamer, and to some people, dreaming of a perfect world, Eden, brings comfort. Is it all that bad to wish for it?

Watching that show last night was like watching something out of Dante. All that fire on stage was like it was being broadcast directly from Hell itself. Reminded me of an episode of The Simpsons where Homer is sent down and meets the devil.

I didn't see either one. Did Ned Flanders figure in that Simpsons episode?

My idea of Hell is rap 'round the clock, interrupted once in a while by Imagine.

Man, the song is complete and utter fantasy.

That's why it's called "Imagine".

Appreciate the kind words, all of us do. And I know what you mean by getting mellower. My current tastes run towards Jimmy Buffett. Guess I've traded my spiked wristbands for a Hawaiian shirt and Margarita. Still got the old discs, though.

It's not bad to wish for it, but some in his generation tried to make it reality without anything but emotions and feelings to back it up. Add to that the underlying cowardice of the PP's, which was the real motivation for many. Their worldview was completely corrupt and based on lies and fairy tales. The results are obvious.

Looking at planks 1-10 of the Communist Manifesto, which planks do you see there that haven't been implemented here in the "Homeland"?

Unfortunately, none, in some form or fashion. But my point was to show how the song, "Imagine" relates to a utopian/communist society.
Many of the "feel-good/protest" songs of the 60's/70's were meant to inspire revolution, whether the author meant it that way, or not, IMHO. Communism is a subtle, patient monster. It knows how to "use" certain events/songs/people/places to achieve particular goals.
Even though I respect the musical talent of Neil Young (big fan of "Everybody Knows this is Nowhere") AND John Lennon and most everyone performing last night...the program left me with a plastic, empty feeling.

I would have liked to see somebody like Billy Idol belt out Petty's 'Won't Back Down." A little more frightening than Petty doing it. :)

Anyhow, my favorite Simpson's is when Homer becomes the "Chosen One".

Crosby, Stills & Nash were on Jay Leno this week. It did my heart good to see them saluting McCain and talking patriotic. (Nash became a citizen in the '80s.) Anyway, they seemed like many of us, having swung from left in our youth to right as we matured. The same folks who sang about "four deed in Ohio" at an earlier time in our history were singing about the stars and stripes. Guess this really is bringing us together as a country...

I wondered why Young wasn't with them. Then I saw him on the "tribute". I was disappointed.... He seemed so stuck in the '60s -- still.

Petty was great! Loved that snear and defiant look he had!

I agree with another poster about not knowing who a lot of them were, and there should have been names at the bottom when they came on for their numbers. Also think Reba should have sung instead of just being on the phones.

YOU: For some reason, I knew you or someone else were going to come at me with the "Only 4 days thing".

Let me set this straight. I am a supporter of freerepublic.com. I donated my cash to them. I believe in their cause and appreciate everything they do. BUT I ONLY BEEN HERE 4 DAYS SO THAT MAKES YOU AND OTHERS OPINIONS THAT BEEN HERE LONGER MORE IMPORTANT THAN MINE. Because you stated:

YOU POSTING MY QUOTE: "I will have to think long and hard about taking advice from someone who has been here for 4 days"

YOU: Okay, whatever.....If we really want to go there, how many freeploaders are around here? I guess if they been here longer, that is what really counts, huh? Personally, I think we should all be on equal ground around here regardless of time registered or donations given. But apparently some feel differently. That's fine.

I wasn't familiar that you have written parody songs, so my apologies to you. You do have every right to do that. I just see so much hypricitical points in this thread. Like the song or not, (which I have noted I really do not care for it), I do not believe in banning it from certain radio stations and I do not believe in censorship. That is wrong, and I am surprised that more people aren't discussing the aspect of that instead of trying to tell us what the song stands for, when Lennon himself said what it means. But I guess direct quotes from the songwriter himself don't matter. Hmmmmmmmm.....

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

If we are on the same side, I don't know why in hell you tried to pick a fight with me.

I donate every quarter.

re: being here 4 days ---- the point was that because you are new, you don't know what I've done on this site. Certainly, we get new people here all the time and we welcome them with open arms. What is interesting is having one speak out of his rear end about me belonging on a communist site when he has no freaking idea what I've done here for 4 1/2 years. That was the point. Unlike those who want to just get along, I don't put up with crap directed my way. In the battle with the left, I have learned you have to get in their faces.

Thank you for allowing me to do parody songs.

Don't you dare mention banning a song on a thread directed to me. Everyone here aleady knows, if you didn't, that I certainly don't believe in that. I would, however, burn my copy in public if I had one. That is my right. It would be my property. I have never advocated taking it off the radio but I certainly have the right to mock people and verbally eviscerate them for it.

re: what the song means ----- I recently visited my son in San Francisco and visited an art museum. I saw a urinal on display. I don't care what the artist says that means, I know what a urinal is. Writers choose words and phrases carefully and for a reason. When he wrote a song that says "no religion too," and makes a reference to no heaven or hell, I pretty well understand what he means. He will create his own religion and it will mean what he wants it to mean. And, my goodness, a multi-millionaire enjoying the fruits of capitalism spewing nonsense about no possessions is just too much to take. In his world, I'm sure he'd retain his possession because as Orwell concluded, some are more equal than others.

My patience for listening to any posturing coming from the left was completely extinguised during the 8 years of the criminal Clinton regime.

re: no countries --- someone who wants no countries must understand that there will be some form of government somewhere. It will be a world government. I will not give up the Constitution. Our nation has been the greatest force for good and for liberty in the history of this planet. I will not give up this country without a fight.

Bump for your edification.

Two things that I thought were ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE before 8:45 AM Tuesday
September 11, 2001 have now actually come to pass.

1. I regret having never gone to New York City due to all the negative stereotypes that
I had internalized about the city and its' people.
I'm not saying it's a perfect place, but now I see that it actually is part of the
American Heartland (or at least the residents of NYC and the rest of the country
have seen this).

2. With notable exceptions like Kurt Russell, James Wood, Tom Petty, and a few others...
I hate Hollywood/The "Biz" even more than I did. This self-serving cabal of multi-millionaire
dimwits hijacked EVERY English, Chinese and Korean language program television program
in Los Angeles.

Thank Goodness Al Rantel was on KABC radio to voice some of my disgust with this band
of overly-enriched no-talents.
