Neil Young sings IMAGINE at Hollywood show for victims

This morning on Fox News, they ended a segment with a clip of Neil Young, in his old cowboy hat, singing IMAGINE. This was at last nite's show in Hollywood to presumably benefit the families of the victims of the act of war in New York.

Yes, a good many songs are of fantasy. I myself like the Zeppelin, Tull, and various others who touch on mythology. But I never view them as a reasonable or attainable worldview. The peace pansies do, and the results are there for all to see.

Reminds me of... Lennon at working at a grocery store and a lady empties her cart and Lennon checks the items through one at a time...

"corn, cream corn, corn, corn, more corn, cream corn..."

Lennon continues checking several more cans of corn. Finally, he says to the lady, "look, all I'm saying is give peas a chance"

No song, thoughts, movies or art should be banned by law. However, this was neither the time nor the place for a veiled reference to free speech rights, if indeed that's what he was doing. Knowing Young's "opinions", I have my doubts.

The message of that song is not "peace in the world"; the message is communal living - everyone shares with everyone else - in other words, you can work your butt off and I get to be a lazy slob and you have to share all your wealth with me. That is the message!!! It's pure communism!

And ... the other subtle message is - there is no one to make you accountable - least of all God - because there is no heaven or hell.

This song is sick, just like John Lennon. Anyone who spends his life on drugs is not thinking clearly.

The song was not banned. Clear Channel sent out a list of songs for their stations to consider not playing for awhile because certain lines might be hurtful to those who had lost loved ones. The list was half appropriate, half ridiculous, as all such lists are. But most stations reported they were ignoring it anyway.

and no one here, by the way, is suggesting songs be censored. Criticism is not government censorship.

Thanks for the kind words. But anytime some bonehead voices the "John Lennon Was a Prophet of Peace, Dude!" absurdity on this forum, they create a target rich environment for anyone who has a lick of sense and more than a passing familiarity with the 60s.

Many in our Hollyweird/pop singer "community" are in a state of deep confusion. Yes, many of them truly hate America (except for the bushels of money you can make and the groupies). But they can't get the picture of those planes hitting the WTC buildings out of there minds. Who among us can?

For such touchie/feelie types, this group is amazingly out of touch with the mood of America. Last night's performance makes that obvious. What a patriotic rouser they could have made that concert. Instead...

I believe SOME of these people are having second thoughts about their pacifist "blame America first" attitudes. SOME. We could have had two hours of "we are the true terrorists" rants. I expected it, but we didn't get that. We could have had two hours of patriotism. We didn't. We got candles and black -- something they all could agree on.

That is a hint to me that there are divisions in the group. The small flame of love of country may be growing in some of these people. Let's hope so.

I was standing on the couch hollering at the TV about the communism in that song. My bride, who knows I am an over the top Beatles fan, said; "didn't John Lennon write that?" I said yes, but it's still got a commie message and is totally inappropriate. We had several similar discussions during the course of this "event." I warned her beforehand that I'd probably be difficult because of the number of "leftists" performing. I was right.

Imagine is a communistic, pacifistic, atheistic theme song. It's presence at a benefit for those police/firefighters is a contradiction. The only difference between a policeman and a soldier is dimension. A policeman goes after a criminal individual and a soldier goes after a criminal state.

If either is "immoral" then both are immoral.

I don't care who was singing it, "Imagine" was inappropriate...not only do I hate the song to begin with, but it doesn't inspire inspiration or hope.

The more I read here, the more I lose hope in my fellow man. The very divisiveness here is that which demonstrates the divisiveness that the song speaks of and calls for an end to. It's just a song asking for us all to get along. No, it's not a head banging song with screaming guitars and beer bottles flying at the audience. It's not a "let's kill them all and let God sort them out" song.

If there WERE more people who valued peace and brotherly love amongst all Men, there would be no such thing as terrorists. Obviously bin Laden and crew don't think much of John Lennon or his song either...

We MUST, at this time, face that reality and take appropriate action, not continue the charade. That's part of what got us here. The only proven way to end terrorism is to end terrorists, and to always be ready to do so.
