Neil Young sings IMAGINE at Hollywood show for victims

This morning on Fox News, they ended a segment with a clip of Neil Young, in his old cowboy hat, singing IMAGINE. This was at last nite's show in Hollywood to presumably benefit the families of the victims of the act of war in New York.

Well, I guess that is one way to look at the situation. Another way is to believe that they do mean to do good. Just maybe they do feel for the victims. Maybe they do have compassion. Maybe they did shed tears in this tragedy. Maybe they were affected like most of America in this terrible act of terrorism. Of course thinking like this means we have faith in our fellow Americans. I think this tragedy has pulled Americans together, and yet on this thread I see people pushing our fellow Americans AWAY because most those entertainers are "liberal", they assume that they must be up to no good.

I've put my political biases aside ever since this tragedy. We need to concentrate on helping the victims, just what these entertainers were doing. And yet many here criticise them for it! That is what I find unbelievable and very sad!

Rock, the song is just about one of the most nonsensical things ever put to music outside of disco and rap. Read your lyrics again. They reflect a worldview of complete fantasy. We were given a lesson on 9-11 of what happens to those who live in such make- believe worlds. The sentiments in "Imagine", and the movement that produced them, were partly responsible for our lack of defense on 9-11. They existed not to promote peace, but because a lot of freeloaders couldn't "imagine" actually doing their duty to their countries. It was about ass-saving, not some impossible "peace"

Neil Young was all I saw when I caught the last couple of minutes waiting for my local news at 11:00 pm. I was appalled........OF ALL SONGS ??????? It was as sickening as the fact that the funds went to the United Way. I'm sure many poor suckers poured money in with the belief that they were helping. Why the United Way (as if we don't know)?

Just looking at the stage, with everyone dressed entirely in black, long-faced and dour looking, hundreds of white candles burning in the back, releasing clouds of smoke into the air -- at one point there were a lot of black-robed people standing around and it hit me! This looks like a satanic mass or something.

Sure did. I couldn't figure out what they were doing with all those candles. I was waiting for one of the stoners to trip over them and set the stage on fire. Might have even happened, who knows since a lot of it was prerecorded.

Good point, but how many songs in existence would fall into this category? Sorry, but I just don't seen anything wrong with Neil Young singing this song last night, and I DON'T EVEN REALLY LIKE THE SONG!

I threw caution to the wind and took them at face value. But I am like others in that the feel of the event was depressing. No one is suggesting that it look like a Barney set but it could have had a more inspirational tone. All the black made it look like an NEA-funded off-off-off-Broadway art house play. I also think it would have been a classy move for the stars to say "Though I did not support President Bush during the campaign, this is a time when he needs our support, as does our brave military."

So, the result is irrelevant, it is only the intentions that count. Like the War on Poverty. Like the Yacht Tax. Like the Alien and Sedition Acts. "We only want to help you . . ."

And if they mean to do good and end up doing the opposite, what then?

And if they tell you they mean to do good and they are actually a bunch of frauds and phonies?

And i'm sure many of them did indeed wish to help out. What people on this thread are saying is that they seemed to have no idea what to do, so they produced a confused, contradictory mishmash of things ("Imagine" vs. "Won't Back Down"). No patriotic symbols and no mention of those still with a job to do and lives to risk (our military) and no rousing, uplifting songs at all. I do hope they try again, and make it less of a funeral. Maybe Young could "accidently" get locked in a closet.

I refused to watch any of it. Those Hollyweird slimes have been putting this country down for so long, I think they were all just trying to divert attention to themselves and away from NYC and DC. I refuse to help them do it.

Did you read my other post? The song IMAGINE was banned by Clear Channel radio, according to foxnews.com. With Neil Young singing that song, it's sending a strong message about free speech in our country. I think that could be considered a patriotic symbol, and of course others will argue it's sending a communism message to America.
