The United States of America is a Christian nation again.
The Terrorist attacks have renewed America's faith in God. There will be no more ACLU/People for the American Way lawyers screaming about politicians and government officials openly praying anymore.
There will no more lawsuits against city officials and residents who display religious symbols during Christmas. No more outrage against high-school teams praying before games, no more Supreme Court decisions.
The atheists at the ACLU were probably defecating in their pants at the site of Congress and President attending the National Cathedral, and at the site of millions of Americans holding candlelight vigils and prayer groups across the country.
I dare the Left to make "seperation of church and state" an issue now.
My position in this discussion has never been about what I believe or what you believe. I simply asked a question about the the so-called "separation of church and state" -- a question to which I have yet to receive a direct answer. I'll try one last time:
Would you show me where it dictates in the Constitution -- the Supreme Law of the Land -- that there be a separation of church and state?
It doesn't matter what either one of us believes about your question on "neutrality." We must yield to the wording and intent of the Constitution -- that is if we are to adhere to the Supreme Law of the Land.
You just proved my point that the seperation is a "one-way seperation" of the state from the church.....Jueo-Christian VALUES are the bases of our value sysem and are to be injected into our laws...not for the "establishment of religion", but to be the core of our system.
If you are right how come our money has "In God we Trust". Here in Texas, many of our Judges use the Bible for interpretations and examples of behavior and judgement. Of course, the ACLU and YOU don't like that!
War is hell, aint it? Even cultural wars.
So you too have detected the high shrieking wail of someone who is losing the argument big time on the part of my posts?
I don't say what should be done in the short run because I'm finally getting into my thick skull that it's far too late for that. Also I've noticed that I'm getting a little shrill. Life as a voice crying (whining?) in the wilderness really doesn't suit me all that well.
It's very interesting to me that you too detected the jarring, out of step note of the Cardinal's remarks--The Beatitudes!! My oh my!! I have not seen hide nor hair of the Cardinal in any of the wall to wall coverage of the Great Crusade since.
Someone, on one of the myriad threads I've read since the tragedy, remarked that the World trade Center Towers were "America's Mecca". I find that an atrocious thought and it gives me some idea of what must be done in the long run. There has to be some sort of parting of the ways--amicable, I hope--between the people who are content with our system and what it is rapidly descending into--and those who have a different "conservative" vision.
As it is, every religion in the world has a homeland except New Testament Christianity. I would also welcome Libertarians and non-moronic athiests, I think.
But I think that too is a childish fantasy. "My kingdom is not of this world." It poses a real dilemma, doesn't it?
I hope that was a suitably irritating response.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF; OR ABRIDGING THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH...
Why is that so hard to understand? The ever-expanding federal government is increasingly dictating to individuals where, and wherenot, they can exercise their free speech rights, for example prayer on government property. This represents a prohibition that violates the First Amendment; particularly in light of the fact that the federal government now owns or controls over 40% of the states' land mass -- and counting.
I do think it is a mistake though to see nothing good in our country and I am absolutely certain that the perpetrators of these atrocities must be severely punished. We may have to sort out our internal problems later -- and I have a feeling that the days of our consumerist culture are extremely numbered.
The 'short run' was over years ago, and your right. It's far too late for that sort of thing.
The world is about to reap the whirlwind, and it ain't gonna stop at Afghanistan. Picture the Crusaders vs. the Muslims by a factor of a thousand or so with both sides possessing (and this time using I fear) nuclear weapons.
As ugly as this thing already is, it's going to get far uglier.
And the damned sad part about it all is, we brought this on ourselves.....
May God have mercy on us all.

The Bible and Christian values really get you upset, huh, Cernunnos?
I bet you really don't like to inject Judeo-Christian values into the Row v. Wade and gay lifestyle interpretatins. No wonder you want a big 'ol concrete barrier up..."Seperation of Church and State" there....no doubt!
I have a single political/law code: No initiation of physical force or fraud.
Anyone who tries to get everyone else to follow their religious views, especially through law, shows the lack of faith in their religion and especially in their God.
