Crowd protests at Illinois mosque[MANY MORE INCIDENTS REPORTED!]

A perhaps predictable backlash hit several communities as federal officials said there was mounting evidence that radical Muslims planned and carried out the terror attacks in New York and Washington. Police turned back 300 marchers -- some waving American flags and shouting "USA! USA!" -- as they tried to march on a mosque in this southwest Chicago suburb late Wednesday.

Three demonstrators were arrested, said Bridgeview Police Chief Charles Chigas. There were no injuries and demonstrators were kept blocks from the closed Muslim worship place. "I'm proud to be American and I hate Arabs and I always have," said 19-year-old Colin Zaremba who marched with the group from Oak Lawn. Federal authorities said they had identified more than a dozen hijackers of Middle Eastern descent in Tuesday's attacks and gathered evidence linking them to Saudi-born terror mastermind Osama bin Laden and other terrorist networks. In all, perhaps 50 people were involved in the plot, government officials said.

In Chicago, a Molotov cocktail was tossed Wednesday at an Arab-American community center. No one was injured, and there was little damage. "The terrorists who committed these horrible acts would like nothing better than to see us tear at the fiber of our democracy and to trample on the rights of other Americans," Gov. George Ryan said.

In Huntington, N.Y., a 75-year-old man who was drunk tried to run over a Pakistani woman in the parking lot of a shopping mall, police said. The man, Adam Lang, then followed the woman into a store and threatened to kill her for "destroying my country."

In Gary, Ind., a man in a ski mask fired a high-powered assault rifle at the gas station where Hassan Awdah, a U.S. citizen born in Yemen, was working, the Gary Post Tribune reported. Gary Police are investigating it as a hate crime. "I lived in the Middle East for most of my life and have never seen anything like this," Awdah said.

In Australia, a school bus carrying Muslim children was stoned and vandals tried to set fire to a Lebanese church in apparent acts of retaliation for the terrorist attacks in the United States, officials said. Queensland state Islamic Council Chairman Sultan Deen said stones and bottles damaged the bus Wednesday in Brisbane. Nobody was injured.

Tamara Alfson, an American working at the Kuwait Embassy in Washington, D.C., spent Wednesday counseling frightened Kuwaiti students attending schools across the United States. "Some of them have already been harassed. People have been quite awful to them," said Alfson, an academic adviser to roughly 150 students.

In a show of patriotism, 45 people from Tampa, Fla.'s Islamic community registered with blood services to donate Wednesday and 30 members of the Muslim Students Association at the University of South Florida signed up. "You feel the pain twice: Once because of what has happened and once because of the looks you get," said Sami Al-Arian, an engineering teacher at the University of South Florida.

Abu Nahidian, director of the Manassas Mosque in Virginia, said his congregation has been the target of insults and hate messages left on the office answering machine. "We have some recordings in our tapes that say, 'We hate you so-and-so Muslims and we hope you die,"' Nahidian said.

A mosque in Lynnwood, Wash., was vandalized and no one showed up for afternoon prayers at the Islamic Center of Spokane. "We must not hurt or terrorize Americans of Arab descent or Islamic faith," Gov. Gary Locke said Wednesday during a memorial service at the Puyallup Fair. Issam Koussan told the Detroit News he bought large U.S. flags to fly in front of his home and outside his supermarket after men in a car pulled into his parking lot and yelled threats and racial slurs at his customers. "I just feel I needed to show my loyalty to this country," he said.

This is not the way to go. The mujadeen terrorists are just as whacked-out as White Supremecists who hang crosses and swastikas next to each other. Do we paint all of Christianity with that label? We should not condone painting all Muslims with the actions of the far fringe of that creed. For cryin' out loud, two of the perps were DRINKING the Friday night prior to the attack. These are not the devout, they are a hideous perversion of that faith.

Sounds like a pretty predictable reaction to what happened on Tuesday morning. But we should be focusing our efforts on wiping out countries that harbor these sick wackos like Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, etc.

Attacking all muslims for this would be like attacking all WASPs for the OK City blast.

This is bad. Shame on some Americans.

It is in a way 'understandable', but still unforgiveable.

This reminds me of some Chinese having the crap beat out of them in Dec. 1941 in California, only because certain redneck, ignorant Americans could not distinguish them from the "Japs" filled with a volatile mixture of cultural ignorance and patent wrath.

This has got to stop, for God's sake. Striking out in mass hatred and blind panic solves absolutely nothing and injures innocent people not connected with the radical fundamentalists.

I could not agree with you more. These people did not do it. They came here to be free from it!

I have a very good friend who is a Bosnian Muslim. Nicest guy in the world. He and his wife are terrified. They are afraid that people are going to come and throw them out of thier home. I completely sympathize with them.

If people have that much energy, they should join the Army. They would get some real good chances at venting.

After boot camp.

Wow! Now the government has more justification for hate crime laws or for declaring marshall law if this gets out of hand/anything else happens. Let me adjust my tin foil here....

Amen. Now is the time for all Americans to unite and stop the evil trend of separating Americans by faith, ethnic groups or classes. We are Americans. One nation, Under God, with liberty and justice for all. If you live in a city or area that has these parades or mobs -- turn off your TV's and go out and stand in soldarity for each and every American's rights.

I, too, have Muslim acquaintances and they were as shaken as any other Americans when we were attacked. One of them is married to a woman whose family lives in New York. It took two days of torment to get word that her brother and her son were safe.

I guess he never lived in Israel.

A good parallel is Japanese-Americans in World War Ii. We imprisoned all that lived on the west coast. But no Japanese American proved disloyal and they provided us with our most-decorated regiment. From what I have seen of American Muslim, they equally appreciate the better life here and are anxious to prove their loyalty, and to extend the blessings of liberty to their posterity. A similiar parallel as far as religion goes has been the attitude of many as late as fifty years ago toward American Catholics as "the legions of the Pope." How quaint and antique that now sounds!

I finished boot camp a long LONG time ago and served my time, but I am still eligible for call-up if need be. So, I guess that I have your approval to vent all that I want, right?

sarcasm off

Impressive.

How ever did you resist the urge to laud these folks as you posted the thread?

BUMP. We need ALL Americans, Moslem and otherwise, united right now. We need total solidarity, not bigoted infighting.

On a happier not, a prominent rabbi and a Moslem cleric were holding hands in front of a demonstration at Arizona State University last night. THAT is how we should come together.

Could that have been because they were all imprisoned?

Something that would be most helpful at this time is for Americans to know that all who are here in America now are here LEGALLY.

1. We need to rigidly and strictly enforce our national borders IMMEDIATELY.

2. We need to identify all who are in this country ILLEGALLY, and DEPORT THEM IMMEDIATELY. PERIOD !!!

These incidents are minor and few. In fact, the article had to go abroad for the worst of them.

Americans are not going about willy-nilly attacking the muslims.

The lust for retaliation outstrips precision in identifying the actual assailant. The targets abroad will be all the usual suspects: rogue states, (most of which, like the Taleban or Saddam Hussein, started off as creatures of US intelligence). The target at home will be the Bill of Rights, which protects the rights of all Americans, including Arab Americans.
