Main Entry: clarion
Function: adjective
Date: 1841
: brilliantly clear ; also : loud and clear
It seems Christians waste so much time and energy on Free Republic fighting each other (myself included!!!) when the real enemy goes undisturbed, or even terribly amused, at our internecine warfare.
Main Entry: in·ter·ne·cine
Pronunciation: "in-t&r-'ne-"sEn, -'nE-s&n, -'nE-"sIn, -n&-'sEn; in-'t&r-n&-"sEn
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin internecinus, from internecare to destroy, kill, from inter- + necare to kill, from nec-, nex violent death -- more at NOXIOUS
Date: 1663
1 : marked by slaughter : DEADLY; especially : mutually destructive
2 : of, relating to, or involving conflict within a group
When will the infighting cease and the real fighting, against our real, common enemy, begin? This internecine warfare on free Republic is killing our united front againt the real enemy, Satan.
How about cutting the apologetics efforts against Catholics 50% and devote that 50% to the real battle, so that we Catholics wasting our time defending the Faith against anti-Catholicism can do likewise.
That would mean a 100% increase in fighting the devil on Free Republic and a 100% decrease in efforts that serve him more than Christ, because it further destroys the unity of the Body of Christ.

When I read the opening questions, I said, "The enemy is within ourselves (sin) and Satan. The weapon is the Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit--we need to submit more His leadership." Then I read the article and agreed.
The internecine comment is good too. Christians, please use the freerepublic to discuss how to reach the unchurched, rather than trying to convince some other Christian of your doctrinal point of view.
It's ironic to see this answer to the world's problems in this political forum. Most people see politics as the means to solving the world's problems. It's merely smoke. The fundamental solution to all problems is through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Our enemies are demons. Fallen angels. Evil spirits. The boogerman.

Some concepts in this article worth "tossing around" with you folks, if you're interested. I think this article has relevance for everyone on all sides of the Freeper Wars.
("Freeper wars" is my own name for the internecine fighting between Christians on Free Republic. There may be a better name for it.)

But as soon as people realize that choosing to become a saint means walking away from Mammon and Babylon and everything that has to do with chasing the almighty buck, they're going to think twice.
Satan's Golden Question, as some Latter-day Saints (Hugh Nibley, in particular) choose to call it, is: "Do you have any money?" After all, we can have anything in this world for money.

The sin problem common to all,
including the demons is the rejection of Creator-God by worshipping at THE TEMPLE of 'Ego'.
The great idolatry of surplanting Creator-God with creature worship ie. 'ego'(self-pride-autonomy that rejects Creator-God)
The 'culture' war begins 'in the mirror'........'Snow White'?

If there really was a Satan, an evil genius constantly plotting the corruption of human souls, be sure he'd do a far better job of it than what we currently observe. After all, most men can be easily influenced by even passably attractive females.
Life is difficult enough that most people are inclined to place their happiness in a future heaven to deaden the disappointment of this life.

I was baptized RC and went to catholic school. Through the years, after much study on the subject, I've realized we practice the arts of temple patterned after Babylon. The idolatry, sacraments, Holy days of observance, symbolism, catechism and cannonical law are copies of paganism.
I'd rather not admit what studies(in toto) brought me to understand this but evil is real and does possess humans with or without their knowledge.
I'm no saint but I have seem none amongst humanity who are righteous in my days. Just my opinion.
Excellent article.

A very interesting post.
Yes, it would be much better for all involved if the Christians could lay aside their differences and work toward our shared goals.
In the political realm, we should be willing to join forces with those who acknowledge our common enemy in society. Dr. Laura and Rabbi Lapin have certainly proved that the Orthodox wing of Judaism is on our side. In the international scene, it seems that the Muslims are the first to condemn abortion and the perversion of homosexuality. When it comes to gathering allies in the culture war, we can find them in most anyone whose eyes are firmly fixed on the Creator and not the creation.
Our enemy is evil (you may even want to capitalize that). Equally against us are those who deny the existance of such and liken it to the belief in childhood monsters. Those who would describe what we know as sin as 'lifestyle choices.' Those who liken every call to a spiritual awakening as a rebirth of the Crusades or the Inquisition (if not both)! They are very, very clever in their responses. They know that ridicule works well to incite anger, which serves their cause well.
For they also serve the enemy, some by choice, others by ignorance!
It is best to set the words of such aside for it does not serve us well to consider them.

Interesting article --- but it is missing one point- How do we combat Satan and his demons?
By praying! Only by gathering together in groups of two or three and focusing your prayer sessions on specific needs! Through prayer and the Power of the Holy Spirit (through Jesus Christ) may the Devil be defeated!

Cheers to Prof. Kreeft! Who would have thought that Boston College - that bastion of the culture of death - could produce something so auspicious.

Absolutely outstanding article. Thank you very much for posting it.
If you will look into your heart in complete honesty, you must admit that there is one and only one reason you are not a saint: you do not wholly want to be.
A chilling insight to be certain.

I think one has to keep things in perspective that even when there are not hot "wars" directly involving the U.S. going on, that the struggle against evil remains a challenging task. There were serious problems before the plane bombings in NY. There will be after this crisis is over.
