A new survey finds that nearly half of undergraduate students support censorship, shout-downs, and physical violence to suppress what they consider “hate speech” or offensive ideas.
Fox News reports that the 2026 National Undergraduate Student Survey, released this month by the Buckley Institute, shows that 45 percent of undergraduate students surveyed believe physical violence can be justified to stop so-called hate speech. That number is up 6 points from 2025 and ties the all-time record set in 2023.
The survey, which polled 803 full-time undergraduate students at four-year public and private colleges across the United States, revealed several record-high metrics concerning free expression on campus, according to Yahoo.
Other takeaways from the survey were that 46 percent of students support shout downs and 40 percent believe that offensive speech should be subject to criminal prosecution.
Some 42 percent of respondents said that political comments they disagree with can be harmful to their mental health, up 4 points from last year; the highest reading in the 5 years this question has been monitored.
The findings prompted Cornerstone University President Dr. Gerson Moreno-Riaño to warn that higher education has “lost its way.”

“Freedom of Speech means we can say stuff openly.”
“Sure.”
“So, We can say stuff even if bothers other people.”
“Of course. But not if it’s hate speech. If it’s hate speech, I get to beat you up for mouthing off.”
“Well, no. And what would you define as Hate Speech, anyway?”
“Well, if you were to say ‘I like Donald Trump’, that’s Hate Speech, right? I can beat you up if you say dumb stuff like that right?”
“No.”
“But what about my Freedom of Speech? When I beat you up for saying stuff I don’t like, I’m exercising my Freedom of Speech, aren’t I?”
I think if we got rid of courses that do not directly lead to improved income, like Basketweaving 101 or Advanced Theoretical Pronouns that the number of college students that feel this way would decrease dramatically.
Hate speech......any disagreement with leftist/socialist/liberal point of view regardless of the validity of the countervaling commentary. Like JoJo said, if it’s a choice between truth or facts, they’ll choose truth. 😵💫. Oh, and lefties ...🖕

*Hate speech = any speech they hate.
Sorry for the ‘double tap’!
When Obama was the President, the Rats said calling him a “socialist” was racist.
“Young minds filled with mush.”
I thought violence was hate speech incarnate
Seems to me that saying it’s justifiable to use violence to stop hate speech is hateful, so it must be justifiable to use violence to stop them from saying it’s justifiable to use violence to stop hate speech.
Yes.
Leads to this in places like Finland and could be in the US if the Dems and Socialists take power:
“In 2021, Finnish pastor Juhana Pohjola and Parliament member Päivi Räsänen faced criminal charges for allegedly promoting Christian teachings on sex and marriage that the authorities claimed “incite hatred”.”
“The case centered on a 2004 Lutheran Church pamphlet defending traditional marriage (one man, one woman, for life) and opposing same‑sex marriage. Finnish prosecutors argued that this content violated the country’s hate‑speech laws, which at the time included protection for “government‑privileged identity groups”.”
——American Faith
The same idiots who taught these kids how to use the right billsh*t ‘pronouns’ taught them this crap.
Anything I disagree with is hate speech.
So, I can be violent all the time?
Interesting. I heard a few minutes of Glenn Beck the last couple of days. He accidentally stirred up a lot of resentment and anger by saying the “bubba effect” leads to people believing they have to same right to overthrow of the Left in the US as the colonists in formulating the Declaration of Independence and going to war against Britain.
People sending texts are angry and furious with the weak GOP and are ready to take arms against the French style Leftist in the US someday.
He’s having a hard time calming that down. (Mainly on we haven’t the right to decide political right and wrong but the Declaration of Independence founders did-——a tough sell.)
Don’t apologize.
We should be practicing all the double taps we can.
Define hatespeach.
Well, we are taxed, but we do have representation, poor, but some.
RE: I thought violence was hate speech incarnate.
From one of my favorite quotes in the Barbary Pirates book by Brian Kilmeade. After Thomas Jefferson got fed up with Muslim pirates abducting and holding for ransom or killing Americans on the high seas, he stopped giving permission for more ransom payment. No more messages of conciliation would be sent out.
“Captain Bainbridge remarked, his resolve firm, “I hope I shall never again be sent to Algiers with tribute, unless I am authorized to deliver it from the mouth of our cannon.”
