Hollywood and Los Angeles were once so inextricably intertwined that you could hardly mention one without picturing the other. So much more than just a neighborhood in central Los Angeles, Hollywood simply was the entertainment industry — a name that conjured all the glamour, glitz, beauty, wealth, thrills, and tabloid debauchery of a magical place that could only exist in America.
Out of all of America, Hollywood could only happen in California. And out of all of California, it had to be Los Angeles.
Hollywood wasn't just where they made the movies. Hollywood was the movies.
Just now I caught myself writing in the past tense.
The Los Angeles I knew, or at least thought I did, was the one from TV and movies in the 1970s. The city was sparkling and new, at once fabulously wealthy for the Hollywood types, yet affordable for the city's burgeoning middle class working jobs in aerospace, energy, construction, and the ever-growing transportation hubs at Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles.
It was Disneyland, too. Mom took me in 1974, when I was four or five, and I'll never forget meeting the real Winnie the Pooh, riding the Matterhorn rollercoaster, or the clean and uncrowded beaches of Santa Barbara.
Hollywood put dreams on the screen, but Angelenos built an almost dreamlike city.
One of the last tributes to that Los Angeles was Steve Martin's 1991 romantic comedy, L.A. Story. It was as much a love letter to a version of Los Angeles that was already on its way out as it was to his then-wife and co-star, Victoria Tennant.

Not just Hollywood but LA and even on a larger scale, California. Give ;lefties un checked power for a couple of decades and they'll destroy anything.
That’s the bitter truth.
Hollywood elites run the state. See what elite television has done.
While doing a spin class this morning, the instructor lamented pop songs today being 2-3 minutes long. I explained television series have gone from 39 episodes to a decline to 26 episodes, and then 22 episodes, and now just 10 episodes a season. Some network shows are doing two seasons of 11 episodes each for a full 22 episode order. But ten episodes is the standard order now for premium pay. The only show with a 46-week order is syndicated (Jeopardy!). The Price Is Right has a 38-week (190 episode0 order but they have added a pack of primetime episodes so they near 200. So whereas in the past, you had television from September to May weekly of a show, now you’re having breaks too often because only 22 shows in the 39 weeks of a television season.
Television is becoming lazier because elites have made it ten episodes a season.
Elitist television ruined television. Elites ruined California. They’ve controlled the West Coast where a solid blue wall is developing and infiltrating the continuous line.
Say Goodbye to Hollywood...
Oh and Carl's Jr, In-N-Out, and Yosinoya Beef Bowl! And Naugle's and Del (Dog?!) Taco! Margaritas while watching the sunset from the bluffs above Laguna Beach. And the OTL Tournament put on by the OMBAC in San Diego every summer....

Studios bought thousands of acres and started developing streets, buildings and eventually a studio. Then 2 hurricanes in 5 years did them in during the 20's.

As I understand it many hollywood types as well as certain notable tech big shots WAY UP on the food chain make it a habit to attend that abomination.

The movie, “Falling down” is more accurate.
I visited family in LA in the early 70’s.
Years later I worked for a company that was located in Anaheim. Great company to work for but the SCAMD or pollution police drove them out of the state. That was around 2004.
I was just there a couple of months ago and it has gone downhill even worse.

I grew up and still live in the Pittsburgh, PA area. When I was a kid, hearing a friend or relative was moving to California sounded like a fabled place of surpassing my imagination. Now, I feel pity for those who want to leave but don’t...
Just came back from a 2-month road trip and spent 10 days driving throughout California. Used to spend quite a bit of time there in the 80s/90s,but I hadn’t been there in 30 years. The decline was unbelievable, even though I expected it. It’s truly a dystopian nightmare of crumbling infrastructure and troubled, miserable people.
We left So Cal (Ventura) in 1970.
It was too expensive. High property taxes drove up every thing. It was before Prop 13.
Our rent doubled.

Should have gone through the upper Gold Country of the state. It is a completely different world...mostly it is still America..
“Burning Man” is some infantile thing to push their “freedom” and “rebellion” or whatever in the faces of normal people.
To be fair-I don’t really care what they do to and with each other out there. It is, after all in a fairly desolate location. And I do enjoy the originality they display with some of their participatory art, some of it is interesting and funny.
But I have to laugh, in much the same way I laugh at people who went to Woodstock and wallowed in the mud as if it were some rite of passage, talking about how terrible it was while our troops were huddling under tarps in leech infested jungles.
I laugh when they don’t have anywhere to go to the bathroom, anywhere to get clean water, anywhere to wash themselves (as if the modern-day hippies need it)
I know of at least one ostensibly intelligent person on this forum who is quite open to going there and enjoying it. Power to him. Not my thing.
Glamour and Glitz have been replaced by by fat and ugly!
