I have a solution to President Trump’s Iran war problem. It’s pretty simple. Hear me out.
Win the war.
Let me use a sportsball analogy. As Las Vegas Raiders owner Al Davis famously commanded, “Just win, baby.”
We’re doing the on-again/off-again thing again, and it’s getting old. Of course, we have largely achieved our core military objectives. Iran’s ability to generate combat power has been substantially degraded. Their air defenses have been shredded. Their nuclear program has been set back a decade or more. They cannot shut the Strait of Hormuz — they can only make threats and launch the occasional drone or missile. These are impressive results, achieved with relatively low American losses. And for those of you now screaming that we did in fact suffer casualties, stop acting like children. There are 50-square-yard chunks of Omaha Beach where we took multiples of the total U.S. casualties suffered in this entire campaign.
So, to claim we’ve “lost” the war raises that classic “Is he stupid or does he think we’re stupid?” question that we face so often in the current discourse. But while we’ve hit many of our operational goals, we haven’t achieved the main strategic one: removing the regime. That’s winning. And it’s undeniable.
So, let’s win this. Let’s finish it.

Oakland Raiders.
I have said a number of times that while Trump’s stated goal is not regime change, IRGC mut nevertheless be overthrown or the war will have been a failure. It’s overthrow should have Iranian fingerprints, but it has to happen. They must have gone into this with a plan to trigger and support a coup or a revolution; if they didn’t it was badly planned.
Leaving IRGC in power, like leaving Hamas in power, guarantees the next war.
Easier said than done. Regime change would require a ground invasion and we’re not prepared for that. This guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about when he says Iran can’t close the Strait. There’s no real military option here other than what we’ve already been doing and continuing on the current path is just foolish at this point.
Silly! This is a war with China. we did not start it and we can’t finish it. The best we can do is isolate Iran and Yemen. Shoot the ports and bridges so they can’t truck or train or ship new missiles and drones into those countries. The talks are a facade on both sides. Russia and China won’t let Iran agree to anything. If they do. China and Russia will fire rockets at ships from Iran anyway. So the talks are with people who do not control the weapons.
The only thing America can do is isolate Iran from importing weapons. There aren’t that many roads and rails. Hit the bridges. And hit the port especially the Caspian Sea ports and the Indian ocean ports. The weapons come from there. As well as the stans.
“Win the War Already”. Bomb the hell out of them with spiral hams.
Yeah, but…people want it to be over. It’s a miniseries to them and they’re bored
What happens when politicians get involved in destroying the enemy.
It still pisses me off 60+ years later
Over is no longer an option. If you hit the bridges and ports you may stop them from hitting ships for a while. And it will seem over for a while.
War Powers Act-
He can on-again off-again cuz its just 30 day at a time.
He can’t go to War without Congress.
That’s the system as designed.
Don’t like it? Convince your fellow Citizens to change the system.
How about we DECLARE war already.
No support for that in Congress? OK — then pack everything up and bring it all home.
So when are you headed over to Iran?
“I have said a number of times that while Trump’s stated goal is not regime change, IRGC mut nevertheless be overthrown or the war will have been a failure.”
Agreed.
It is even worse when you try to kill off the senior leadership—and do kill off a whole bunch of them—and the regime still survives.
That is the worst possible scenario.
Win the war.
“Easier said than done. “
I agree. Life is so simple when everything someone knows about war and politics comes from movies and TV. The reason everything works out perfectly in the entertainment world is the author made it so. Life and politics are more complicated, messier, and has real world consequences. People can’t game it out in their head. “Nuke Iran!” Yikes. What would the world look like on the other side? Trump is already painted as the Evil Orange Man.
I’d hate to be the one trying to get out of the Iran problem because, there probably isn’t an actual “out.” Best possible solution would be for the Iranian people to remove the regime. Statistics say that a government can remain in power with the army and as little as 12%* of the population supporting them. In a Muslim country the percentage that wants to be “submissive” is probably closer to 60%.

I don’t personally know Trump or what his strategy is regarding this war.
But, I suspect that he appreciates that many Iranians are themselves hostages to radical Islam and is trying to minimize hardship on the largely innocent.
And, he’s trying to achieve realistic goals with minimal death and destruction.
It’s tragic that at least twice they (the Iranians) tried to stand up to the regime. Both times they were slaughtered as the rest of the world just watched.
Iranian media reports that the Revolutionary Guard launched missiles towards ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Smartest thing you ever posted. I didn’t know you had it in you!
Destroy Qom, the holy city of the ayatollahs. Discredit Shia Islam by forcing whoever’s in charge over there to explain why Allah is not protecting his followers and their cities. Their theocracy won’t have a leg to stand on if they are forced to admit that the God of Israel is stronger and smarter than the god of Persia.
