Mamdani officials scramble to ease concerns about public supermarkets — but local business leaders aren’t buying it

The Mamdani administration is scrambling to ease concerns about its plans to open government-owned supermarkets — but recent talks have instead raised even greater alarms among local business owners, The Post has learned.

New York City bodega owners came to City Hall last week for a “roundtable discussion” at the invitation of Julie Su, deputy mayor for economic justice — only to get barraged with “intrusive” questions about their businesses, a source close to the situation said.

Ahead of the meeting last Monday — attended by reps from city agencies and trade groups for the city’s 13,000 bodegas — Su asked the group in a questionnaire, “What items are sold the most at your stores?” and “Where is your profit margin the greatest?” sources said.

The bodega reps declined to answer, according to sources.

“They wanted us to share proprietary information with them but they don’t answer our questions and that’s why there is distrust,” said a bodega rep who did not want to be identified.

Note the issue is the crushing of mom-and-pop operations, not the big supermarkets.

Meanwhile, thirty million dollars have already been appropriated. Buddies already taken care of.

“crushing of mom-and-pop operations”

That’s the objective.....at least one of several anyway.

Commies must have control.....the ability to be self sufficient through a successful business is at the top of the list of things that must be destroyed.

Complete dependency on the government is paramount to communism.

Madmani thinks he’s qualified to run a chain of grocery stores?

Of course he does. Socialists and communists believe they are capable of running everything and I'm not being sarcastic. They believe in central planning so by definition, they believe they can run everything whether it's grocery stores or chip making factories or wheat farms. And all those idiots supporting DSA candidates and the like believe the same.

One thing about having the Soviets around was that we had plenty of practice making counter arguments to socialism and communism but since they fell, it appears we've gotten a bit out of practice.

Deputy Mayer for Economic Justice.

What a mouthful of communist anarchist drivel.

All of the Mamdani Regime should be deported back to Uganda.

Where is the DOJ when Constitutional Rights of the citizenry are suspended on city-wide scale?

Government has no right to challenge your business enterprise.

Arrest these dangerous communists and deport them from the country.

If I was a supermarket owner (Like Wegmans, Shop-Rite, Key, Bravo, others) I would call a strike and close all of the stores for a weekend.

If the Madmani wants to open Socialist supermarkets, Wegmans, Shop-Rite and others can tell him to GFY...

“Note the issue is the crushing of mom-and-pop operations, not the big supermarkets.”

That’s the goal. Increase dependency, consolidate market power so the communists can more easily take control.

If the Madmani wants to open Socialist supermarkets ...

I'm not convinced he really wants it. Thirty million already to study it, first store to open in three years. That's the plan.

His buddies are taken care of and he's getting publicity. When the time comes in the year he's up for reelection he may open one or maybe just blame someone else for the schedule slipping. And if it does open, it will not fail until after the election.

Just an aside -- Compared to other big cities in the USA, NYC does not have that big of a "food desert" problem.

In the world of criminals, you never share information because it will be used against you.
