Big Tech, in addition to its ambition to blot out the sun for Climate Change™, also has big plans to use bioengineered insect species of various sorts to achieve their aim of saving the planet — or, alternatively, for those inclined to “conspiracy theories,” destroying it.

California could soon become a testing ground for one of Google’s most ambitious public health projects yet.
The tech giant is seeking federal approval to release up to 32 million specially treated mosquitoes in California and Florida over the next two years as part of an effort to reduce the spread of mosquito-borne diseases, including West Nile virus, St. Louis encephalitis, dengue, Zika, chikungunya and yellow fever…
The project is part of Google’s little-known Debug initiative, launched more than a decade ago to develop new technologies aimed at reducing populations of disease-carrying mosquitoes…
Rather than releasing biting insects, the company plans to release male mosquitoes infected with Wolbachia, a naturally occurring bacteria. When the infected males mate with wild female mosquitoes, the offspring do not survive, helping suppress mosquito populations over time.
Because only female mosquitoes bite humans, experts say the releases would not increase the number of biting mosquitoes….
Google says artificial intelligence and robotic systems would be used to breed, sort and release the mosquitoes at a scale large enough to make the strategy effective.

While not the most beloved of Earth’s creatures for obvious reasons, mosquitoes nonetheless serve numerous vital functions in the ecosystems in which they reside — as do all of flora and fauna, which exist in a highly complex and synergistic interplay that reckless practitioners of The Science™ have...

AI breeding - where nothing could possibly go worng!
Lets see them let them loose in Google HQ first.
I’m sure it will be a big hit. /LOL
Uh, no. Now what? Eat ze bugs?
Gotta love clickbait headlines! The sterile male mosquito programs have been going on for years...including around FR HQ in FResno, CA:

(No Bill Gates or Google or AI involved).
Two comments:
1) Every mosquito will be call a “google mosquite”
2) They are “solving” a problem no one is even educated on, and creating a problem everyone knows about - great PR move!
And what will they do about the inevitable decline in the bird and bat populations and anything else that lives on mosquitoes?
Gee! That’s probably what they did with COOVID?
The infected skeeters will probably kill all the bats & birds that eat them.
Reminiscent of Mao's "Four Pests" campaign that turned out so well where they tried to exterminate all the sparrows, rats, flies and mosquitoes.
So, you won’t take the shot?
The Sterile Insect Technique has been used since the 1950s to try to suppress mosquito populations. Google isn’t doing anything new here. And lives will be saved as a result. Mosquitoes have killed more human beings throughout our history than every other animal combined.
Can you show me a life that has been saved?
For the children.
Sadly, it wouldn't be much worse than what many homeowners do here in Central Texas. They will spray for mosquitoes, then spray some more, and for good measure, over-spray 10-fold. I kid you not. They've helped wipe out nearly all the bumblebee and butterfly population in our area. What we saw 3-4 years ago? Pretty much nada.
DDT worked to kill the “MF”ERS. Now they want to try to make bacteria do it. I choose DDT. where is 007. Is this SMERSH or Blofeld?
They should be breeding more DRAGONFLIES!.........................
