WASHINGTON โ€” A massive 300-foot-wide, 150-foot-tall American flag has been draped over the Hoover Dam in Nevada as part of the celebration for America's 250th anniversary.

The installation went up on Memorial Day to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to the country, and will light up each night until July 4. The display uses more than 550 automated LED lights and is completely powered by the dam's hydroelectricity.

Going to be fun celebrating an event where half of the people hate their own country, and a fair number of the other half could care less. Many of them have no idea what July 4th means other than displaying the flag, grilling and drinking, and setting off fireworks.

Not that thereโ€™s anything wrong with that.๐Ÿ˜‰
However. Sadly I take your point.
Enjoy the celebrations! I will.๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜‰

That's fine angle for the picture from the bridge over the downstream side of the dam.

I wonder if this was the same one, myself and many FR members held in Alameda Sept 11, 2002.
Wish I had photos of that day.

You'd have to admit the 250 Anniversary is pretty much a snoozefest. I was 10 when we had the Bicentennial; US automakers were making commemorative editions of cars, and the 4thwas a big deal. With a forever war happening in the Middle East, gas at 5 bucks a gallon, and the economy puttering along, people are in no mood(except Boomer COP Trump Worshippers here).

Maybe some dogs on the grill and fireworks, but celebrate the country right now, people are staying home to catch the next edition of America's Got No Talent.

I toured in 1970.
