Iran fears Israel’s 'new strategy' after major strikes on steel industry
Jerusalem Post ^ | April 1, 2026 | MAARIV ONLINE

Iran’s largest steel producer, Mobarakeh Steel Company, has reported heavy losses to its production units following joint US-Israeli strikes on its facilities during the war, with attacks hitting multiple sites in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province.

Mobarakeh, the largest industrial company in Iran and the biggest steel complex in the Middle East, was considered a cornerstone of the country’s economy. Reactions on social media platforms reflected both anger at the regime and growing concern over the broader implications of the strikes. “Mobarakeh was the pride of Iran’s steel industry and a supplier of raw materials for thousands of factories. The most prominent company in Iran is gone,” one journalist wrote.

Another journalist said, “Unfortunately, I have learned from two independent sources that the extent of the damage to Mobarakeh is severe, and there are also casualties. It appears that this key industry will not return to production for a long time.”

Criticism of Iran’s leadership also intensified online. “It is difficult for all of us to hear this news. But we must remember that we need to continue along this path and move beyond the cursed regime of the Islamic Republic. A free Iran can be rebuilt, but Iran in the hands of bloodthirsty terrorists will always move toward destruction. As long as the regime does not surrender, we are likely to hear more bad news like this. To hell with the Islamic Republic,” another post read.

According to one analyst, the strikes on the steel industry, alongside discussions about a potential takeover of Kharg Island, point to a broader US-Israeli strategy aimed at reducing Iran’s foreign currency revenues to near zero. “If this is the case, petrochemical industries are also likely to become targets in the near future,” he said.

Essentially, the "new" strategy to break Iran's economy, especially any exports of value: from nuclear materials (the heavy water reactor), to this steel plant, to refined goods, and presumably finally oil if regime change does not happen.

Personally, the easy way to close Kharg island is to mine it. Then we don't have to destroy it.

No money in, no money to support terrorists and no money to re-arm.

If you asked me the strategy remains ‘regime change’ in Iran with special forces ops to kill Iran’s leadership one option.

I’m wondering why the U.S. does not take out a portion of Iran’s gasoline and diesel refining capacity - leave enough so that the government will have a little to ration to the citizenry.

Taking out half their fuel supply will put a crimp in their economy and everything else.

Maybe. We can clear the path.

But the heavy lifting has to be done by the Iranian people, the Kurds, and probably the Artesh.

Not a good strategy

Anything we break we are most likely going to end up repairing.

Every time the US goes to war we end up spending billions to repair what we broke.

These stupid wars are money pits waiting for us to fill up.

War has become a growth industry.

I had hopes Trump was going to end this cycle.

It seems the Bush Republicans found a way to get their hooks in to him.

“Anything we break we are most likely going to end up repairing.”

Ask the Vietnamese about that. We left, did nothing, and they starved.

I don’t see Trump nation building unless the Shah Jr. takes power. And he’d use Iran’s oil money to do it.

Israel tried this new weapon yesterday: https://www.thedefensenews.com/news-details/Israel-Uses-CBU-94B-Soft-Kill-Munitions-Blackout-Bombs-to-Disrupt-Electrical-Network-in-Tehran-and-Karaj-Without-Physical-Damage/

Maybe Trump is going to shut the lights out in Iran shortly after his speech tonight.

WW-2 experience is the extremely heavy machinery can take a beating and be brought back into service relatively quickly so, the roof has to be blown off, then the key heavy equipment can be directly targeted by precision strikes.

Iran’s missiles are disproportionately made of steel, verses those from the US and Israel, because it makes them cheaper and quicker to assemble. This will definitely but a damper on that.

Viet Nam was 50 years ago. Viet Nam had a working government when we left. Not one we liked so they got no money.

I suspect when we leave/the war ends, Iran it will not have a working government other than the one we give it. Trump will accept nothing but peace on his terms. Trump’s terms are unacceptable to the Iranian government. So, we keep killing Iranian leaders until none remain.

I see this ending much like Iraq. Total collapse of the existing governmental structure.

We then allow elections on our terms and supply billions of dollars for reconstruction.

Is that how it worked in Iraq?

I can't think of a single instance where it worked that way.

If any money comes back it will end up in a billionaires pocket and not the treasury.

I would lay money on it. Anyone who takes the bet is a fool and should be parted from his money.

“Iran’s largest steel producer, Mobarakeh Steel Company, has reported heavy losses to its production units following joint US-Israeli strikes on its facilities during the war”. I guess the Christians and the Jews said, ‘naw, you ain’t going to chant death to me anymore’.

Ah, but we’ve totally left alone Iran’s secular government functions and its regular Army (the Artesh). It’s a lesson learned in Iraq.

If the IRGC/Mullahs are gone, yes, I see help.

Help in the form of US oil companies swooping in and selling oil and distributing the proceeds. No taxpayer money.

If the mullahs/IRGC are still in power, it will be like Vietnam. Too bad, so sad, good luck.

Dear Iranian protesters,

Now that we’ve destroyed your country you can have it back.

If the IRGC/Mullahs are gone, yes, I see help.

Funny thing is, if they are gone, they'll make more.

Iran has about 96 million people.

Like the revolutionaries of the 1970s they will come down out of the hills and raise h3ll.

Help in the form of US oil companies swooping in and selling oil and distributing the proceeds. No taxpayer money.

The oil companies are unlikely to take risk like rebuilding Iran's oil fields without guarantees and incentives.

Something like tax free income for twenty years after full production starts, grants for mercenary protection.

The government will try to camouflage government spending on reconstruction but it will be there.

You are truly without a clue how the modern world works. You also fail to understand how great powers deal with countries like Iran. Review how the world’ was before 1914.
