Jimmy Carter: The Father of the Islamic Revolution
PJ Media ^ | 5 Mar 2026 | Eric Florack

Posted on 03/05/2026 6:11:14 PM PST by Rummyfan

I’m going to start out this morning by quoting a piece I wrote back in 2007:

Yesterday, I made a comment with regards to the culpability of Jimmy Carter as regards our current troubles with Iran. As you may imagine I managed to get some email commentary on that charge. For the most part, the mails chided me for rendering such a verdict against so great a president. Apparently, the people writing, have learned nothing from reading this site, over the years. In any event, Michael Evans, in an OP/Ed piece in the Jerusalem Post, nails it down quite nicely ...The old article on the Jerusalem Post is long gone, of course. But I managed to save some of it:

The old article on the Jerusalem Post is long gone, of course. But I managed to save some of it:

We just don’t get it. The Left in America is screaming to high heaven that the mess we are in in Iraq and the war on terrorism has been caused by the right-wing and that George W. Bush, the so-called “dim-witted cowboy,” has created the entire mess.

The truth is the entire nightmare can be traced back to the liberal democratic policies of the leftist Jimmy Carter, who created a firestorm that destabilized our greatest ally in the Muslim world, the shah of Iran, in favor of a religious fanatic, the Ayatollah Khomeini

Using French intelligence surveillance of Khomeini's speeches and activities, Giscard tried desperately to dissuade Carter but Carter obstinately, arrogantly insisted that Khomeini should return because he was "a man of peace". The last 47 years belong to Carter personally.

Khomeini’s fateful 1979 flight from Paris to Tehran that unleashed 47 years of oppression and terror.

France gave him asylum and a place to run the revolution to overthrow the Shah. When the time came, the French chartered this Air France flight for him

Absolutely. Never forget that Jimmy Carter’s response to the fatwa on Salman Rushdie was to suggest that Rushdie deserved it.

Let’s not forget dummy number #2.

The two greatest enemies of radical Islam in the region were the Shah of Iran and Saddam Hussein. Not the nicest guys in the world. But also not insane Islamists.

Dummy #1 (Carter) got rid of the Shah.
Dummy #2 (Bush II) got rid of Saddam.

Jimmy called for human rights. Then he placed the worst evil dictator on planet earth in charge of Iran. Was Jimmy just simply the world’s village idiot?! Or was Jimmy a satanic two faced creep.?! After Jimmy was out of office, he kissed up to every communist dictator he could find. And then there is the idea that Jimmy desperately wanted to be liked. Like a doggie, Who’s a good boy. You’re a good boy. Maybe Jimmy wanted to receive praise, even if it was from a commie dictator. Politeness is the realm of the little old lady. Jimmy was constantly preaching politeness. No matter what Jimmy did, he wanted to be popular. He wanted to be approved. He wanted everyone everywhere to tell him how wonderful he was.

Carter gave away the Panama canal too - - so much damage in only one term. What a disaster.

But at what price? So much American blood and treasure lost. Not worth it, in my opinion.

The invasion of Iraq also destabilized neighboring Syria, and set off a civil war. Thousands of Muslim “refugees” then fled into Europe - an unintended consequence of Bush’s invasion.

One last thing. Saddam was an effective counterbalance to the ayatollahs in Iran. Bush II removed that counterbalance.

(Lots of folks here on FR disagree with me on this, and I respect that.)

Carter was indeed the one most responsible for what is happening in the Middle East, as I’m sure he’s probably found out by now. Why anyone would try and dispute that (other than stupidity) is beyond me.

If anything, I think we were not bold enough. We should have taken out Assad in Syria too. Our aims were eventually thwarted by Arab tribalism and fanatical islam., The people of Iraq were not capable or desirous of a Western style democracy and socialism iety (what Arab country is?).

The region is a basket case.... Syria, Jordan, Iraq..... almost randomly drawn up countries created by the Brits and the French after the Ottoman Empire dissolved after WWI. This is not even scratching the surface .... lots of books have been written on the subject.

On that we agree. And the same can be said of Africa. Lots of artificial boundaries were drawn up there, too. No thought was given to tribal identities.

I’ve often wondered why there’s not more violence there.
