John Daniel Davidson at The Federalist accuses Benjamin Netanyahu of forcing President Trump to invade Iran. But as in so many situations, the accusation of “force” is not that straightforward. And Davidson doesn’t make a successful argument
Davidson opines on a statement made by Secretary of State Marco Rubio:
‘It was abundantly clear that if Iran came under attack by anyone, the U.S. or Israel or anyone, they were going to respond against the United States,’ Rubio said. But later he added this: ‘We knew there was going to be an Israeli action. We knew that would precipitate an attack against American forces, and we knew that if we didn’t preemptively go after them before they launched those attacks, we would suffer higher casualties and perhaps even higher numbers of those killed. And then we would all be answering questions about why we knew that and didn’t act.’

But Rubio had more to say about the situation, as described by another journalist, Phylissa Cramer:
‘This operation needed to happen because Iran in about a year or a year and a half would cross the line of immunity, meaning they would have so many short-range missiles, so many drones, that no one could do anything about it because they could hold the whole world hostage,’ Rubio said. He added, ‘Obviously, we were aware of Israeli intentions and understood what that would mean for us, and we had to be prepared to act as a result of it. But this had to happen no matter what [emphasis added].’

The problem with Davidson’s argument is that he disregards a number of factors.

Second, not one time during the negotiations did Iran indicate that they would stop their nuclear weapons program.
Third, there was evidence that they were already rebuilding their nuclear weapons facility.
Davidson insists that the decision to go to war rested only with Israel.
That opinion disregards the fact that Trump stated over and over again, that Iran’s nuclear program was a threat not just to Israel, but to the United States. There has been a kind of reciprocity in decision-making between Bibi and Trump: in fact, Israel deferred to Trump’s orders a number of times about engaging with Hamas in the Gaza War.
Won’t change the minds of those filled with hate for Israel.
Israel was hoping, yes, that USA would join in eliminating the threat. But nobody pushes PDJT around, and he has explicitly made it clear that HE decided on this action, nobody other than PDJT as our Commander in Chief.
Yes, most Israelis are thrilled and dancing in the streets (when they’re not huddled in bomb shelters). But nobody, not even a great speaker like PM Bibi, can issue any orders to PDJT. He has his own mind and it is sharp as a tack (despite some of his rhetoric).
Trump’s decision to strike Iran was a victory for Netanyahu, who had been pushing Trump for months.
At Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Dec, Netanyahu calculatedly “asked Trump’s approval” for Israel “to hit Iran’s missile sites.”
Two months later, he got something even better: a full US partner in a long-held Israeli war plan to establish tiny US tax dependent-Israel as a regional power.......
Came complete with all the military might, taxpayer wealth, and global status only America can confer.
So.....was Trump inveigled by Netanyhu’s hidden agenda?
Well this Iran operation is certainly sending all the Israel hating ferrets out on the street. Some of the posts and pics on X I have seen are outright anti-Semitism. (and yes 100% we should deal with bad ideas not by censoring but refuting).
Don’t know if America has had the same but Canada has seen many anti-Semitic events for the last year or so.
If anything I dragged HIM into it! I mean HE dragged me into it! Whichever sounds better.
Sure Jan.
Sadly.
Rubio said it - right there on the video.
Post #4 before “Jews are Evil!”?
You’re slipping.
Iran is much more a plausible threat to Israel than it could ever be to the US. Israel, having the most powerful and modern military in the Middle East, could and should have dealt with Iran on its own, rather than using agitprop to manipulate the US into doing most of its fighting for it.
Well, Briben and Harris both said “Don’t”. They did and I guess they just didn’t expect us to do anything.
Gas prices are skyrocketing and Americans have died in unnecessary foreign war.
This war has to wrap ASAP or Democrats will sweep back into power and destroy the country.
Under no circumstance can end up with boots on the ground being slaughtered.
If on the other hand the US commits to a "nation building" project set of restoring the Shah's do-nothing son to power, that will require boots on the ground and a long term occupation, which will create an even bigger political backlash across the spectrum than Iraq 2003 did (which, unlike today, GW Bush at least made an effort to sell the project to Congress and the American public before embarking on the misadventure).
Sounds like Nick Fuentes. Those Jews, controlling the president behind the scenes.
This is like when Biden boasted of having the most extensive and inclusive voter fraud operation in history. It wasn’t what he was supposed to say. It probably wasn’t what he meant to say. But he did say it, and it raised a lot of questions — and in Biden’s case, it turned out to be true.
Yes he did. He gave the real reason why and then had to walk it back with damage control
How much do the Dems pay you Liz?
No it won’t … these same people were blaming Israel for everything that happened on October 7th.
Never forget these people also voted for Potatoe Joe to lead the free world.
TDS is a terrible disease.
