Denmark said Monday it will summon the US ambassador after President Donald Trump announced he had appointed a special envoy to Greenland, the Danish autonomous territory he has threatened to annex. In response, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa said they stood "in full solidarity with Denmark and the people of Greenland".
Denmark said Monday it would summon the US ambassador after President Donald Trump appointed a special envoy to Greenland who immediately vowed to make the Danish autonomous territory "a part of the US".
Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has repeatedly said the US needs the resource-rich Arctic island for security reasons, and has refused to rule out using force to secure it.
On Sunday, Trump appointed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as special envoy to Greenland.

Talk is cheap, isn’t it, Euroweenies.
Cuz you lot are broke.
The EU will fart in his general direction should Trump go any farther. (I don’t agree with his actions toward Greenland, but given the EU’s total uselessness and future with Islam, ‘twould be better to save what we can.) Europe is not in that Venn diagram
The real question is how to the people of Greenland feel about this?
Yep.
I’m rooting for the Euros on this one. This whole Greenland thing is a bizarre embarrassment for the U.S..
I guess the Danes don’t know what Autonomous means.
Most of Greenlandās residents are indigenous peoplesā¦related to Inuits.
There are only about fifty thousand people living in all of Greenland, about the same population as Harrisburg PA.
And nearly all of those inhabitants live in small trailer type homes and apartments. The equivalent of a mud hut in the African Congo.
The EuroTrash don’t like the idea of the USA annexing Greenland but are perfectly OK with communist China taking the resources covertly (as long as the EU gets a kickback, of course). /spit
Never go full retard dude. Rooting against the US is definably “full retard”.
There’s nothing of substance going to happen. No fighting or anything, just stupid posturing with no result but egg on swine’s face. And we’re so egregiously wrong in terms of threatening an actual ally to give up territory that we deserve that egg.
I hardly consider that Euroscum our allies. They are grifters who have used and abused us for decades. Uncle Sugar Daddy has covered their rectums at great expense to us. Time to leave NATO, withdraw our troops and equipment and let the bastards wither on the vine.

Greenland is geographically part of the continent of North America.
As are the Virgin Islands, which Denmark sold to US...
The USA, will never take Greenland.
Why? Because conservatives respect border integrity.
Only imperialist and communist nations take and steal others lands and houses.
America isnāt Russia. We are not thieves.
Trump is only doing noise to keep the idea of a strong collaboration with Greenand a future possibility. But Trump will never attack and illegally annex Greenland, he respects borders.
A January 2025 opinion poll conducted by Verian (commissioned by Danish newspaper Berlingske and Greenlandic media Sermitsiaq) found that 85% of Greenlanders do not want to leave Denmark to become part of the US, with only 6% in favor and 9% undecided. This poll surveyed a representative sample of over 400 adults, weighted by demographics and prior voting behavior.
Most likely a referendum vote on joining the USA would lose, but what the actuality would be also depends on conditions and timing
Yes. And if I were allowed to speak a few words of criticism: to be honest, I would be more cautious in this particular case if I were President Trump.
After all, should not the Greenlanders be asked first what they think of becoming part of the United States?
After all, the principle of national self-determination is still a very important legal concept.
That means you should not, metaphorically speaking, sell the bearās pelt without asking the bear firstā¦š
