Acting FEMA Chief David Richardson resigned on Monday, according to CBS News.
David Richardson, a Marine Corps veteran and assistant secretary for DHS’s Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office, was appointed to assume the duties of FEMA Administrator in May after Cameron Hamilton was abruptly removed from the post.
“Mr. Richardson led FEMA through the 2025 hurricane season, delivering historic funding to North Carolina, Texas, Florida, New Mexico and Alaska, and overseeing a comprehensive review that identified and eliminated serious governmental waste and inefficiency, and refocused the agency to deliver swift resources to Americans in crisis,” a DHS spokesperson said in a statement.
On December 1, FEMA Chief of Staff Karen Evans will take over as Acting FEMA Administrator.
“Starting Dec. 1, FEMA chief of staff Karen Evans will assume the role of acting administrator, the spokesperson said. The DHS statement indicates that Richardson also is leaving his job as head of the department’s Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office, which Trump has sought to close,” Politico reported.
CBS News reported:
David Richardson, the acting head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), is leaving his post, according to five current and former homeland security officials familiar with the decision. Richardson submitted his resignation Monday morning, the officials said.
He served as FEMA’s “Senior Official Performing the Duties” of administrator since May 8, 2025, when Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem abruptly removed his predecessor, Cameron Hamilton. Before leading FEMA, Richardson was Assistant Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security’s Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office.
Earlier this year, Acting FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton was abruptly removed from his post, just one day after publicly opposing the administration’s push to abolish the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Hamilton, a proud Trump supporter and former Navy SEAL who led FEMA since January, was reportedly escorted out of the agency’s headquarters after clashing with Trump and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem’s vision to dismantle FEMA, according to sources cited by CNN.
President Trump has vowed to reduce the size of FEMA or eliminate the agency.
“I’ll also be signing an executive order to begin the process of fundamentally reforming and overhauling FEMA or maybe getting rid of FEMA,” Trump told the reporters during the press conference in January.
“Frankly, FEMA is not good. I think when you have a problem like this, you want to go. Whether it’s a Democrat or Republican governor, you want to use your state to fix it and not waste time calling FEMA,” Trump added.

We may never find out why he suddenly resigned.
No doubt, that was a high pressure job position, where there will always be a group of somebodies saying in their opinion and experience, you and FEMA are doing a lousy job.
The media has been so busy with more trendy topics, they haven’t dug deeply into the results of FEMA just yet.
ROTFLMAOPIMP!!! **** FEMA, and ANYONE associated with it. Go talk to Helene victims ON THE GROUND...I dare you.
People come and people go.
Was Hamilton removed? The article wasn’t clear! /s
This sounds like a routine personnel change written to look look like its some earth shattering breaking news.......clicks as you know are the order of the day.
Is it sudden or abrupt when they give two weeks notice?
In the event of a natural disaster of some kind there are always pinheads who say, "Why didn't the government anticipate that this would happen?"
They want to make every square inch of the US rubber-padded and nontoxic.
Can't be done.
Especially if people like being out in The Great Outdoors, which are dangerous and prone to weather issues.
We lead everyone out of the office building when they resign or are fired, too.
That doesn’t seem to make the news.

Here is a link to a Fake News Article on Cameron Hamilton.
High wish-fulfillment and entertainment value.

Wonder if they cross-pollinate with the Babylon Bee.
Enjoy.
Turnover does happen, and this is an acting position.

If your ultimate boss says this about your organization then I would bail and find another job.
Demon-crats mut have caught him in some kind of Badger Game yrap or other extortion scenario they can use against him.
Thanks, Norski!
Normally if you resign you don’t need to be escorted out, quit on the spot maybe.
The day after Hurricane Milton tore my houe up I contacted FEMA.
After no help was forthcoming I even paid a personal visit to their local office seeking assistance.
But all they were set up to do was to enroll people - to add name to their data base.
They told me they had no way to actually provide or schedule aid or assistance at their level.
They even sent crews around to identify people who needed assistance.
They were surprised that I already already contacted FEMA and that I had a big file of paperwork from FEMA.
But all they were intersted in was getting another name on their list.
A year later all I have from FEMA is a thick file of paperwork and a list of telephone conversations.
Not one penny of aid or assistance.
After six months of nothing but busy work I gave up.
In my experience it seemed that what they were most interested in was building a list of people who needed assistance.
Then they can say they are in contact with and assisting a great number of people.
They are good at generating paper work and employing incompetent people to do busy work.
Not so good in taking positive action to assist taxpayers.
FEMA can simply be a place that disburses the funds to the locals. A central point to deal with in the case of large catastrophes. They don’t need to be trying to do it. The locals know what’s up.
I’m SURE Karen will be GREAT!!!!/s
There’s no time like the present to split. FEMA is shutting down, states do a better job. FEMA pushes paper and FJB weaponized it against conservatives... so yeah it’s toast along with the corporate culture created by FJB’s weaponization and DEI. It was ruined. OGA’s do alot of parallel work.
