Nuking the filibuster is unprincipled, but it also makes little political sense: Trump would be doing Democrats a huge favor by greasing the wheels for exploiting fleeting one-party national majorities in the future, which will allow them to shove through massive generational “reforms” without any national consensus.
And they would be able to do it without taking any political heat for nuking the filibuster.
In recent years, they’ve coalesced around an argument that says the 60-vote threshold to cut off debate in the Senate is antiquated — a “Jim Crow relic,” said one-time filibuster champion former President Barack Obama — and fundamentally “undemocratic.”
Democrats contend that the filibuster facilitates “minority rule,” by which they mean “federalism.”
Yes, filibusters protect the minority because crass majoritarianism is objectively un-American, as is centralized one-party “democratic” rule from Washington.
The filibuster isn’t in the Constitution, but in many ways it is one of the last tools left in DC that can limit the power of the federal government and compel separation of powers.
Even as a political consideration, ending the filibuster is counterproductive.

They might. That's not a good reason to do it for them.
Utter BS. We have a nation to save and need to fix a lot of problems in the face of objections of the Democrats who broke the whole thing. Doesn’t matter whose to blame. You have the power, you use it or you lose.
Just that opener alone was enough to stop me.
It's not in the Constitution. It's just a senate rule. Some senators made up the rule in the past. It's been modified in the past. Rules can be changed. The idea that nuking the filibuster is "unprincipled" is just manipulative and stupid. Tell me it is unwise. Tell me it is inadvisable. Arguments can be made one way or the other. But "unprincipled"? You're just selling something.
I am not so certain. WE have been lurching toward totalitarianism for about 60-70 years.
The Trumpian counter-revolution is the first chance we have had of actually reversing the course.
There is a very good chance if the Left eliminate the filibuster in a couple of terms, they will make irreversible one-party rule the result. Two more leftwing states for the Senate, packing the Supreme Court. Nationwide mail in balloting with no checking of identity.
The filibuster does us little good in such a circumstance.
If they get back into power they will do it in a second. The Senate needs to grow a set of balls and do it. The only way to get this country fixed.
They might. That’s not a good reason to do it for them.
—
they will - it was the Dems who tried to get rid of it, but failed due to 2 no longer present members. Upshot: it’s a bad deal of the GOP nukes it, but very good if Dems nuke it.
The Senate needs to grow a set of balls and do it.

The only balls in the Senate belong to the Dems.
Make them talk if they want to filibuster
They can approve PR pretty easily.
But right now, it's unconstitutional for them to turn DC into a state according to the 23rd Amendment.
Nuke the filibuster and get on with it. Defang the damn democrats.
I am sick of this.
I have a question. If true why haven’t the democrats done this when they were in power? Like during the Obama administration.
The filibuster is a great way for the majority to talk a big game, deliver nothing, and blame everyone but themselves. It’s Senate CYA. Nuke it.
Not migh but WILL create a huge mess if not disaster.
To nuke the filibuster would be stupid.
There is no provision or Article in the Constitution for a Senate filibuster provision. It needs removed or if the nation wants it to become part of the Constitution, create and pass a Constitutional Amendment. As it stands, the filibuster is being used by the minority party to hold the majority in our country hostage. Nuke it!!
President Trump say that Democrats will nuke the filibuster the first chance they get.
They might. That’s not a good reason to do it for them.

If we don’t nuke it, the legislation we need to save this country will never get passed, the Democrats will nuke it to ensure that things get worse, and we are as good as dead.
BS. Probably a RINO.
If they don’t do it, and exploit the living hell out of it for election reform, they lose at midterms and the democrats will come in out for blood. They will be 10x as bad as the worst Biden/Obama year.
As Steve Bannon said, they will be looking to put large numbers of Republican leaders in prison. At this point, the GOP needs to recognize were in an absolute existential war, time to use it or lose it

The country stands little chance of surviving if the Donkey Party returns, unchastised, unreconstructed, to power in any part of the three federal branches.
The loss of the Senate filibuster would be the least of the Pubbies’ problems, should they end up back in the minority there.
