Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani has won the New York City mayoral election. His victory comes despite many distortions and false claims circulating about him — including one from President Donald Trump. A fact check.
As they chose the next mayor of New York City, voters faced a pivotal decision that reflects a broader generational and ideological divide with national implications.
The race for mayor of the biggest city in the United States pitted Democratic nominee Zohran Kwame Mamdani against independent candidate and former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican repeat contender Curtis Sliwa.
Mamdani's win marks a historic moment: he will become the city's first Muslim mayor and its youngest leader in decades. At 34, Mamdani has already become a national figure, drawing criticism from President Donald Trump and other Republicans.

Polutofact rated the labeling of Mandami as a "communist" false.
Those are Mandami's OWN words. "...THAT WE FIRMLY BELIEVE IN..." referring to "...THE END GOAL OF SEIZING THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION...
Those two things were in the same sentence. They are not out of context. He also stated baldly in a regretful fashion: "...WE DO NOT HAVE THE SAME LEVEL OF SUPPORT AT THIS MOMENT...
Well. That sure is good to know. And Polutofact and the "experts" they consulted concluded that is not proof he is a communist.
Those rubes who support him and voted for him would be well served to listen to his exact words in his victory speech:
"...We will prove that there is no problem too large for government to solve, and no concern too small for it to care about..."
He warned them with his own words in his 'victory' speech. Very similar in tone to Leon Trotsky's famous statement: "You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you."
