Depending on the outcome of New Jersey’s gubernatorial race on Tuesday, gun owners in the state can prepare to breathe easier or bunker down for another four years of hostility.
The race pits Republican Jack Ciattarelli, who has promised to defend the Second Amendment, against Mikie Sherrill, who is backed by a plethora of anti-gun groups. The winner will appoint New Jersey’s next attorney general, who has a considerable role in enforcing the state’s gun laws and defending the Second Amendment.
Matthew Platkin, New Jersey’s current attorney general, has consistently pushed for gun control after his appointment four years ago by outgoing Democratic Governor Phil Murphy. In New Jersey, the attorney general is appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate.
During his time as attorney general, Platkin has sued numerous gun manufacturers, supported a wide-ranging ban on carrying guns in public places, and defended the state’s strict gun laws.
Platkin has defended the state’s ban on AR-15s and ammunition magazines that carry more than ten rounds. The case is currently before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Trump administration has filed a brief in support of the Second Amendment groups that challenged the law.
“Although such rifles and magazines are subject to reasonable regulations that are consistent with the Nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation, the complete bans at issue here are unconstitutional,” the Justice Department argued in a recent brief.
Platkin has also supported bans on so-called “assault weapons” in other jurisdictions, and he co-led a brief in September defending the ban in Cook County, Illinois, on AR-15s. In May 2024, he took action to defend similar gun control laws in Massachusetts.
The New Jersey Democrat also went on the offensive, accusing gun manufacturer Glock of...

As much as I hate New Jersey’s Dems, they’re not the ones who control the fate of the Second Amendment — in New Jersey or anywhere else.
They don’t control it. They just violate it.
Everything hangs in the balance with all the radical left Marxists in the race.
The seep have been groomed for the event.
Note: Auto-complete suggested "the 2nd Amendment means nothing".
How does the results of a NJ governor’s race affect the 2nd Amendment?
What a ridiculous assertion.
It’s a daily wire article so hysterics can be expected
I bet they HATE these Remington model 8 rifles made in 1906. Yes, 1906.

WOW! It is getting as hard to get on a gun web site as it is on a porn site anymore. Got to prove I am over 18. I was buying guns when no laws were required back in 1968.
We're one election away from losing everything.
That can happen in 2028 if Gavin Newsom gets elected as the next President of the United States.
I first saw one of those when Pierce Brosnan had one in the AMC series The Son, and was so intrigued by it I had to look it up.
First Model 8 I saw in a movie was used in “Ride the High Country.”(1962)
Shall not be infringed means exactly what it says.
“Platkin has defended the state’s ban on AR-15s and ammunition magazines that carry more than ten rounds.”

I escaped from the People’s Democratic Republic of New Jersey, where I grew up, almost 25 years ago. As my wife of (then) about 18 months and I crossed the Delaware Memorial Bridge on I-95, and came to the “Welcome to Delaware“ sign, I casually remarked to her, “Now you don’t have to worry about bailing me out.“ her eyes opened wide, and she asked me what I was talking about. I explained to her all about New Jersey’s law on “assault“ rifles and “high capacity“ magazines, and emphasize that each magazine carried a penalty of up to five years in prison. She asked me how many I had, and my response was, “Well, about 18 inches behind my ass is about 200 years worth in Rahway State Prison.“ I could see the blood draining out of her face, and she was uncharacteristically very silent for about 30 seconds. She then asked me if there were any laws like that in Texas. I told her, “no babe, Texas is in America.“
That’s all because of the blatantly unconstitutional gun laws in the dark and fascist state of New Jersey. Tragically, it has only gotten worse there since then. I didn’t move just because of that, but that was certainly not one of the reasons on my “Stay vs. Go” list to stay.
It doesn’t. But it gets clicks.
Are hollow points still illegal there?
Sadly, it is not looking good for freedom tonight. Virginia, my home state, has really hit the pits.
Agree
Are hollow points still illegal there?
= = =
So, if I drill out the lead in the bullet tip, they will call it a hollow point.
Can I argue that I am removing the toxic lead to make the bullet safer?
