Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts was pilloried – by his fellow conservatives – for defending podcast host Tucker Carlson after his friendly interview with Nick Fuentes, a far-right influencer known for his anti-Israel and antisemitic commentary.
Mr. Roberts posted a video Thursday in response to what he described as “speculation” that the foundation is “distancing itself” from Mr. Carlson over his Monday podcast with Mr. Fuentes, who has said the Holocaust was “exaggerated,” declared “I love Hitler,” and suggested that the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel was “staged.”
“We will always defend truth. We will always defend America, and we’ll always defend our friends against the slander of bad actors who serve someone else’s agenda,” Mr. Roberts said. “That includes Tucker Carlson, who remains — and as I have said before, always will be — a close friend of The Heritage Foundation.”
Mr. Roberts insisted that the “venomous coalition attacking him are sowing division. Their attempt to cancel him will fail.”
“Most importantly, the American people expect us to be focusing on our political adversaries on the left, not attacking our friends on the right,” he said. “I disagree with — and even abhor — things that Nick Fuentes says, but canceling him is not the answer either.”
His comments exposed a festering rift on the right between the pro-Israel Republican Party and conservative mainstream, and a small but potent band of influencers such as Mr. Carlson accused of seeking to “normalize” anti-Israel and even antisemitic viewpoints.
Pushing back on Mr. Roberts’ statement were Sen. Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, and Sen. Ted Cruz, Texas Republican.
“Now is a time for choosing. Now is the time for courage,” Mr. Cruz said in a Friday...

Kevin Roberts is right.
Why do fake conservatives think they can impose censorship and anti-Constitutional ideas on real patriots?
Doesn’t Nick know you can only be anti-white and anti christian ?
Question: Y should we care? WE got the 3 branches of government. Pedal to the metal territory? Not really but enjoy the movie-popcorn. These 2 guys are like the dwarfs who start gang fights and then run around kicking people in the shins.
he should NOT be trying to defend Tucker. He should instead be asking Tucker to reconsider his recent turn to the Dark Side.
I would consider Mitch McConnell to be on the dark side.
Stupid should hurt. Kevin Roberts needs to be fired. I was never a Tucker Carlson fan to begin with, and him doing puff pieces with historically illiterate anti-semites, is proof I was right. Acting as an apologist for Carlson in this situation is a disqualifying act.
he sure hasn’t been sunbathing in Miami, that’s for sure
I am not a big Mitch fan. The one thing I will extend to him, say for him, is that he has a tough job. Given that the margin in the senate is so close that it depends on unreliable and sometimes very difficult to get votes from a few Squishes.
Politics shouldn't be used as a reputation cleanser.
Sometimes a jerk is just a jerk.
I thought only the Left was into canceling people they disagreed with. But apparently the Right also has some of these types of people. Both are just control freaks wanting to silence people whose views they dislike or are upset by. Snowflakes. I have no problem with Tucker but Fuentes sometimes crosses the line.
But like him or not he’s a force to be reckoned with and can’t be ignored. Tucker tried belittling Fuentes as “that weird little gay kid living in his parents basement”. Then Tucker got eaten alive by the alt right on X (twitter) and people started calling him a Fed and questioning whether Tucker was connected to the “deep state”. So I look at Tucker’s interview with Nick as Tucker trying to gain back his credibility with the alt right by granting Nick the interview. Seems to have worked.
I can’t understand anyone aligning with Fuentes.
Carlson has always been about Carlson. Carlson knows what side his bread is buttered on and works accordingly.
I should mention some months back when I first heard of Nick Fuentes I checked him out on X. I found some of his banter rather crude and childish. So I made a post to him and said something along the lines of if you ever expect to have any real political influence you need to clean up your act. Leave the childish ethnic slurs alone ect. Then I was immediately attacked by his groyper groupies telling me to “shut the F up grampa” lol. They are rather fanatical about him. I wonder if they were his gay fanboys? Nick talks down about women in a way only a homosexual man would. Like they are useless or something. I guess to a homo they would be lol. So he foolishly alienates 50% of the population right off the bat putting women down. Not exactly smart politics.
How very Ernst Rohm of him!
Was he a homo too? I had to google him. In any event I don’t see Fuentes going anywhere politically but all the panic over him is amusing.
Very much so! During the suppression of the SA he was caught in bed with a lover.
Look at Nazi propaganda posters very very butch! There was a book that discussed this called The Pink Swastika. Its been suppressed now very difficult to find. Dubbed pseudohistory now, I’ve read it. It was well documented and presents a strong case. Even argues Hitler was a latent homosexual and may have been a call boy during his Vienna artist years.
