More than 40 million people receive SNAP benefits, which could go unfunded due to the government shutdown.
Gopuff is the latest company stepping in to help people who could lose access to food assistance if Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding runs out due to the government shutdown.
The delivery service announced it will provide up to $10 million in free groceries to SNAP customers through a new relief program launching Nov. 1. Eligible recipients can receive $50 in discounts spread over two weeks in November.
To participate, customers must have a SNAP EBT card linked to their Gopuff account. Those who already have their card added don’t need to take any additional steps. Once eligible groceries are added to their cart, customers can apply discount codes at checkout.

From Nov. 1–15, users can enter the code SNAPRELIEF1 for $25 off SNAP-eligible items and free delivery. From Nov. 16–30, they can use the code SNAPRELIEF2 for another $25 off and free delivery.
Instacart also said on Friday it would offer a 50% discount on SNAP customers' first grocery purchase. They also offer free delivery on their first three grocery orders.

Earlier this week, DoorDash said it will waive delivery and service fees for partner food banks, food pantries and grocers.
“No one should go hungry in America - period,” said Max Rettig, Vice President and Global Head of Public Policy at DoorDash.
More than 40 million people receive SNAP benefits. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, nearly 62% of SNAP recipients are families with children, and nearly 37% of beneficiaries are households with older adults or people with disabilities.
Many illegal aliens get food stamps in the thousands of dollars per month.
Then they sell the food stamps for cash, and send it back to Mexico or maybe to Somalia where their relatives use it to build vacation homes.
You have not been able to sell food stamps for cash for at least a quarter of a century.
Then they sell the food stamps for cash,
“You have not been able to sell food stamps for cash for at least a quarter of a century.”
You can bet your a$$ the illegals are receiving SNAP benefits and selling them. They use the cash to give to their relatives in Mexico or wherever they came from.
Yes. A bit over 50%
and selling them.
No.
What they do is buy stuff and then sell it, usually to bodegas, and that is how they make the money. But you can not sell the stamps themselves. For one thing, because they no longer exist.
I stand by my statement that you can not sell food stamps.
Excuse me.
This is like the “I was wire-tapped” controversy of 2017. People get caught up in words while missing the meaning.
Of course the illegal aliens sell their SNAP benefits digitally. Let’s stick to the point here.
There always has been and continues to be a huge underground cash black market for various welfare benefits, especially SNAP. The evidence is provided at various sites, including FAIR and CIS. Both and others are long-standing anti-illegal immigrant orgs, while being pro-legal immigration within our immigration laws and policies.
As for my personal experience, just know I and my family lived with illegals using our cul-de-sac home to continue heading "Norte". One night I finally got fed up with them using our side gate next to my kid's rooms and confronted about 8 of them. Yes, I had weapon - they left. Also yes, they would leave their trash on our property as they do in the Arizona illegal trails. I voted for this and President Trump is keeping his promise. Think it's unjust, you have your local and federal critters for your tears.
No reply needed or wanted. Enjoy being an American.
maybe not sell, but bargain, trade, etc I know people who would do that.
““No one should go hungry in America - period,”
Maybe if certain ones did, the diabetes rate and obesity rate etc would drop?
I do agree those in real need of a meal, should be helped.
If these companies are giving away millions of dollars of free stuff to welfare recipients.....
....Then they are charging their paying customers millions more than they should be paying.
Sure. Like I said they will buy something and sell it. Also there are places that will run your card for something, you "return it" and they give you cash back. But big stores can not do that, you tend to get store credit at best because they do not think "orange is the new black".
Back in the nineties you would see people walk out of food stamp offices and there would be people waiting to buy their stamps for about 25 cents on the dollar. Now days it is closer to 10 cents because it has gotten a lot more complex to do.
Money laundering, which is what this is, is both easier and harder at the same time.

I had never even heard of this company until now. Apparently, it is like Door Dash. Have never used any such service, and I am guessing I could well afford the fees.
How much additional taxpayer money are these SNAPanese people wasting for a service because they are too lazy to go to the store themselves?
Other money on the EBT card may be.
But WIC and SNAP can not.
Okay, thanks.
If nothing else this has given me a reason to take a deeper look at welfare as it stands currently.
It's worse then you think.
Not only for who it is given to but who it excludes.
Taxpayers and those footing the bill for these moochers should immediately cancel any Instacart and DoorDash accounts.
SNAP money can not be used for delivery fees.

You sound quite familiar with SNAP!
I saw this on Walmart’s site, regarding SNAP delivery fees ...
Can I pay for the delivery using SNAP funds?
No, delivery fees & other associated charges may not be paid for with SNAP benefits. Only eligible food may be purchased with SNAP benefits.
You may pay for fees using your EBT cash benefits or another payment type.
~~~
WTH are EBT Cash benefits?
As if SNAP is not enough.
EBT is Electronic Benefits Transfer. It is a card, looks like a credit card, on which all your government benefits are loaded. It used to be a Bridge Card in Michigan.
SNAP, WIC, and any cash are loaded on this card electronically. SNAP and WIC can be used for uncooked food at any place groceries are sold. SNAP has some restrictions, WIC has a short list of foods that are covered. The cash can be used for anything, even be withdrawn from a ATM.
And yes most of them do get some sort of cash allowance. It is suppose to be used for things like soap, toilet paper and other non-food necessities of life. Some are even used that way.
