New Jersey officer stopped at ATM and pizzeria instead of investigating double-murder

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A New Jersey officer has been charged with misconduct after prosecutors say he didn't quickly respond to and properly investigate reports of a shooting that turned out to be a double murder, instead stopping at an ATM and pizzeria.

Franklin Township Police Sergeant Kevin Bollaro was the on-duty officer on the evening of Aug. 1, when police received 911 calls reporting gunshots and screaming in Pittstown, about 60 miles from Manhattan in central New Jersey, according to Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renee Robeson's office.

But rather than responding immediately, prosecutors say, Bollaro drove nearly two miles in the opposite direction of the caller's location to a bank ATM, GPS data and surveillance video show.

Dispatchers relayed other calls from concerned neighbors as Bollaro proceeded towards their locations without activating his police vehicle's emergency lights and sirens, they said.

When he arrived at the location of the first caller, the officer told the dispatcher he didn't hear anything and said he would continue to the locations of the other callers. But Robeson's office said GPS data shows he never visited those locations before he asked the dispatcher to clear him from the scene.

They say Bollaro instead headed to Duke's Pizzeria in Pittstown, where he remained for nearly an hour. Witnesses later saw him park and enter another local restaurant, where he remained for roughly another hour, prosecutors said.

Bollaro later submitted a report in which prosecutors say he made false statements about the extent of his investigation. They note that during the timeframe he claimed to be canvassing the area, the officer was already on route to the pizzeria.

In NJ, the police are by township. There are only 3200 people in the township, so there was one policeman patrolling at night. He got 3 calls about gun shots and screaming. He went to one of the houses that called, but didn't do anything for like 8 hours. Two people were found shot to death. They might have survived if they had gotten medical treatment.

Policeman was not just fired, but is being prosecuted. Woman and boyfriend was killed by ex-boyfriend. Ex-boyfriend was state trooper. She repeatedly had asked for restraining orders against him, etc. and was ignored.

Area is kind of idylic. Sort of wealthy suburban, sort of rural. Not Jersey stereotype at all.

When seconds count, the police are just a few errands away.

It really depends on the victims. If they stiffs were your run-of-the-mill gang bangers,
let 'em ripen up. A policeman's life is hard enough, even without missing meals.

Probably dead gangbangers with mile-long rap sheets and the perp will have been arrested 38 times but never prosecuted because Dindu Nuffin's brothers, Dinsee and Dono are the only people the cops could talk to.

Yeah, can't really blame him for wanting to put something in his belly first.

Well, he probably was hungry but needed money to buy himself a pizza and eat it on the way to answer the call. It’s a possible scenario.

yep. Blue state, cop is probably fed up with everyone he arrests being immediately released so I agree with him: He’s doing more for the community by buying a pizza and helping the economy.

The state trooper was also originally part of Governor Murphy’s detail. Then they moved him to the Attorney General‘s detail. This is a huge cover-up that’s being coordinated with the local police and the state police. This was all over the news here and one of the local police departments that did nothing is in the next town over from me. As predicted, the story went away pretty quickly.

To make it even more of a mystery, it doesn’t take much to think that maybe the local cop was an acquaintance of the state trooper and let him know that he would be on duty at that time. It’s awfully coincidental that he found every reason to not go and investigate three separate calls for gunshots.

In a deleted scene from The Godfather, Pete Clemenza stops in an Italian Restaurant and orders food (gnocchi?) and picks up cannoli someplace before “taking care” of Pauly. A man needs his energy.

The victims were a young 31 year-old veterinarian in the community and her firefighter boyfriend. She was previously involved with a state trooper who obviously had mental issues and began stalking her after she broke up with him. He was also on the Attorney General‘s protective detail, previously on Governor Murphy’s protective detail.

She was not a gangbanger. The state trooper dated her for a short period of time and couldn’t deal with the break up and began to stalk and harass her and ultimately killed her and the new boyfriend, all while the local cops and the state police did absolutely nothing despite her repeatedly asking for restraining orders and reporting his harassing behavior.

This is a huge cover-up between the New Jersey State police and the local cops. Of course the intrepid media hasn’t followed up on it and the story has mostly gone away. They’ll do what they need to do in the background, but nobody’s going to connect this to the governor’s office.
