Pope Leo invokes criticism of Trump's policies in first major document

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) -Pope Leo urged the world's Catholics to help immigrants in his first major document, which was released on Thursday and invoked one of the late Pope Francis' strongest criticisms of U.S. President Donald Trump's anti-immigration policies.

Leo's document, known as an apostolic exhortation, is focused on the needs of the world's poor. It calls for widespread changes to the global market system to address rising inequality and to help people living paycheck-to-paycheck.

The 104-page text started as a writing project by Francis, who was unable to complete it before his death in April after 12 years leading the global Church of 1.4 billion people. It was finished by Leo, the first U.S. pope.

"I am happy to make this document my own – adding some reflections – and to issue it at the beginning of my own pontificate," Leo writes at the beginning of the text.

DOCUMENT REFERENCES CRITICISM OF BORDER WALLS

Elected in May to replace Francis, Leo has shown a much more reserved style than his predecessor, who frequently criticised the Trump administration.

But Leo has been ramping up his disapproval in recent weeks, drawing heated backlash from some prominent conservative Catholics.

"The Church, like a mother, accompanies those who are walking," the pontiff writes in the document, titled "Dilexi te" (I have loved you). "She knows that in every rejected migrant, it is Christ himself who knocks at the door of the community."

"Where the world sees threats, (the Church) sees children; where walls are built, she builds bridges," Leo says, referencing Francis' 2016 criticism of Trump as "not Christian" because of the president's plan in his first term to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

The White House has said Trump was elected based on his many promises, including to deport "criminal illegal aliens".

Maybe the Popester can dig into the Vatican’s limitless horde of precious jewels, gold, and silver to help the “world’s poor”.

This is exactly what separation of Church and State is about....The church doesn't tell the government how to run our affairs and the government doesn't tell the Church how to run their affairs.

In other words dear pope...MYOB.

The Catholic Church is in the illegal immigrant “comfort” business. It’s a money maker...

The Church was making millions trafficking humans, so of course they don’t want it to stop. I haven’t seen them offer to house, feed and provide insurance for them, even though the Church has more money than most governments.

IMHO and former Alter Boy, this pope just crossed the line and has become a Political figure/spokesman and therefore has brought the Catholic Church into a political entity, and as such has lost it’s qualifications for a Tax exempt organization.

Pope Leo is a sac of crap - like his church.

+++++++++++++

Some folks improve their lot in life when they escape the cesspool of Chicongo. Others take the cesspool with them. I held out hope for Prevost but he is the spawn of Bergoglio. The church needs to shun this fool.

I gave Leo the benefit of the doubt, hoping and praying for the best.

Don’t give up, God has brought many a good from far more evil than this false prophet.

He needs to mind his own business and run his own sovereign state.

President Trump doesn’t have “anti- immigration” policies.

Has the Pope thanked Trump for ending the war in the Middle East yet? You know, “Blessed are the peacemakers..” and all that? What has Pope Leo done to bring about peace? Maybe if he spent less time focusing on climate change, immigration and LGBTQ outreach, he could focus more on saving lives (and souls).

the Chicago Catholic commie picks up and runs with Frank’s torch

Another SoS (Servant of Satan) now soiling the Chair of Peter. Perhaps the Muzzies will do something beneficial for a change. To paraphrase King Henry II who lamented in 1170: “Will no one rid [us] of this meddlesome priest?”

My position is there shouldn’t be any recognition of NFPs in the tax code- let them pay their “fair share.”

I used to call Pope Francis Poop Francis.

Leo is making me miss Poop Francis.

Catholics need to avoid the new poop. It’s beginning to stink more than the old poop.

Yep! I wonder how many families they could fit into ALL those extra rooms they have there — and just sell off some gold and paintings to fund their food, clothing, schooling, medical costs.

I’m not holding my breath...

Well Popey McPopester; we’ve been told to obey those placed in authority over us. Seems like we have some laws written about citizenship, illegal aliens and all that.
Maybe Popey McPopester should stick to the purpose of the church; preaching the Gospel and saving souls.

Saw the hunk of ice blessed by the Pope last week because...of global warming. Not the best look for humanity regarding the biggest modern day fraud.
