Democrats win momentum over GOP in shutdown fight

As the shutdown fight stretches into its second week, the winds have shifted in favor of the Democrats — at least for the moment.

Early polls say voters are more likely to blame President Trump and the Republicans for the lengthy impasse. The president and his congressional allies are publicly at odds over compensation for furloughed workers. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is sending mixed messages on whether to protect military pay. And prominent cracks are emerging in the GOP’s resistance to extending ObamaCare subsidies.

The combination has put Republican leaders on the defensive, even as they’re faulting Democrats for the long impasse. And the developments have boosted the Democrats’ confidence that they’ll be able to maintain their unified front, both in opposing the GOP’s short-term spending bill and demanding an extension of ObamaCare tax credits, which remains the issue at the center of the deadlock.

“Democrats have been consistent. Our position remains the same, we’ve been saying it for months,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday on the chamber floor. “Republicans are shutting down the government because they refuse to address the crisis in American health care.”

A short time later, Schumer joined 43 other Senate Democrats in opposing the Republicans’ continuing resolution (CR). The 54-45 tally fell shy of the 60 votes needed to defeat a filibuster, marking the sixth time the bill has failed in the upper chamber.

Two Democrats and one independent crossed the aisle to support the bill. But all three of those senators — John Fetterman (D-Pa.), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Angus King, a Maine independent who caucuses with the Democrats — have supported the bill during the last five rounds of votes. The fact no new Democrats are...

In the end the GOP will cave. They always do. Then the illegals will all have a fiesta and go get some free healthcare on our dime.

And the crooked dems will have their money pot to dip into again.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) revealed Schumer’s priorities on the Senate floor! Get a load of this ridiculous garbage! Schumer wants 1.5 TRILLION for this garbage and health care for illegals.
* $3.0 M for circumcisions and vasectomies in Zambia
* $0.5 M for electric buses in Rwanda
* $3.6 M for pastry cooking classes and dance focus groups aimed at male prostitutes in Haiti.
* $6.0 M for media organizations supporting Palestinians * $0.8 M for transgender programs in Nepal
* $0.3 M for a pride parade in Lesotho
* $0;9 M for social media mentorship in Serbia
* $4.2 M for LGBTQI initiatives across the Western Balkans and Uganda

All of that smells suspiciously like “slush fund” for Democrat causes.

If the word got out about what the D’s are really up to, I don’t think they would get much support. But the crooked MSM will never expose what the D’s are doing.

Here is the flaw in the CBS poll:

The poll bundles Trump with Congress, but it is Congress alone that controls the shutdown. Trump has actually been a bit reserved by not acting on Day 1 with his reductions in force.

Of course any question that bundles Trump AND Congressional Republicans against Democrats will score higher disapproval, but Trump isn't shutting down the government when his party passed the clean continuing resolution.

Dims are trying to resurrect the USAID money for woke crap. Not many kickbacks heading their way from NGO’s, I guess. I wonder how many Dim Senators are behind on their mansion mortgages now.

Everyone in my circle almost exclusively blames the dems for this shutdown, and not Trump.

But I fully expect the GOP to cave. They always do. They don’t have the guts to tell Schumer to stick it up his smarmy a** like they ought to.

Oh, now it’s OK to talk about national affairs like it’s a horse race.

That’s considered petty (or worse) when our side does it.

“Dims are trying to resurrect the USAID money for woke crap. Not many kickbacks heading their way from NGO’s, I guess.”

That’s the way I read it, too. They are looking for backdoor NGOs to pillage.
