Code Red for Virginia Dems: Internal Polling From Jay Jones's Campaign Confirms the Crap Has Hit the Fan

It was clear early on after news of the Jay Jones texting scandal broke last Friday, that both he and his fellow Democrats at the state and national levels were going to handle this very badly.

Not only did he not apologize initially, but candidates like Virginia Democrat gubernatorial nominee Abigail Spanberger have refused to demand he drop out of the Virginia attorney general race. Some of them - incredibly - have even suggested that how Jones has handled revelations that he'd once fantasized about killing a former GOP colleague with "two bullets to the head" makes him a role model to follow for others who supposedly are in similar situations.

"You know, Jay has apologized. The statements that he made were indefensible, but I’ve known Jay Jones for 25 years, and I think those statements were not in character," Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) suggested Wednesday. "I wish other people in public life would sincerely apologize for stuff. So, no, I still am a supporter."

Incredible.

Sen Tim Kaine not only stands by Jay Jones, he wishes more politicians could learn from Jones:

And now, amid increasing pressure from Republicans, including President Trump and Vice President Vance, as well as prominent groups like the Virginia Fraternal Order of Police, to step aside, and as allegations about other sickening statements about the death of political opponents continue, there's more bad news for Jay Jones - and it comes from an internal poll released Wednesday:

Hart Research poll | 10/4-10/6 LV

Virginia Attorney General (Jay Jones internal)

🟦Jay Jones 46%
🟥Jason Miyares 45%

Where the texting scandal hurt Jones the most was among independent voters, as the Hart Research memo noted:

Hart Research poll | 10/4-10/6 LV

Virginia Attorney General (Jay Jones internal)

Independents
🟥Jason Miyares 42%
🟦Jay Jones 41%

Independents (Virginia)
Donald Trump (57/42 negative) https://t.co/qD2PETXbyX— Politics & Poll Tracker 📡 (@PollTracker2024) October 8, 2025

Internal polls released by campaigns and their pollsters are notorious for often showing their candidate to be in a stronger position in the race than they actually are, which means that Jones is, in reality, probably behind at this point in the race, similar to the McAuliffe 2021 implosion. Something similar also appears to be playing out in the New Jersey gubernatorial race between Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) and former NJ State Rep. Jack Ciattarelli (R), as we previously reported:

If an internal poll has Sherrill up 7, then it’s probably more like a 3-point race 👀

The Virginia attorney general race debate, which will be held at the University of Richmond, is scheduled for October 16th, and all indications are that Jones will still show up for the debate even as he has canceled some other campaign appearances, including a fundraiser, in light of the scandal.  We'll be sure to cover it, so stay tuned.

Jay Jones: I mostly skipped class for the math ones but they still awarded me an A and I graduated.
But somebody tell me, if the opponent has one more number than I do, doesn’t that mean I’m now losing?
It’s so unfair.

Are these the pollster employees laid off after their confident prediction of Kamala winning didn’t work out? Like weather forecasters, they keep their professional jobs even if they’re wrong. Just move to a new candidate’s campaign.

If these were the days of Nancy Pelosi’s influence, she would not have allowed this ‘situation’ to become a national spectacle appears to have become. This “bloody Elephant in the middle of the Sitting Room” would have been discreetly ushered off the stage.

Jay Jones is merely a sign, like a rash.

The symptoms are soul deep. I highly doubt this screed of his is a one off.

Spamburger is still up by almost 10%, and if she wins then the baby killer wins.

Sears did get a small donation from the Rep. Gov. Assn today, but she still only has about half the cash Spamburger has.

How did voters ever get so retarded?

It is BECAUSE they are retarded that they could only get jobs with the federal government. Hence they flocked to NoVa and the Maryland suburbs to be near their jobs as parasites on the neck of the American People.

In spite of being on the wrong side of so many 80/20 issues and their outrageous promotion of political violence, the Democrats remain in a strong competitive electoral position and appear on track at the moment to win in NJ and VA next month.

Mid-terms are still more than one year away, but Dems think they can sweep both houses of Congress. Right now, I'd say they have a 50-50 shot at that.

What Jay Jones said was horrible, but will it really hurt the Democrats anywhere?

What type of event will it take for the Democrats to feel real and sustained political damage?
