Eli Lilly to invest $5B in Virginia plant amid Trump's pharma tariff threats
Fox Business ^ | September 16, 2025 | Eric Revell

Eli Lilly on Tuesday announced a $5 billion investment in a manufacturing facility in Virginia as the pharmaceutical giant looks to expand its domestic production capacity amid the threat of tariffs.

The manufacturing facility is expected to generate 650 high-wage jobs and 1,800 construction jobs at the West Creek Business Park in Goochland County, Virginia. The facility will produce active pharmaceutical ingredients for cancer, autoimmune and other advanced therapies.

Eli Lilly's announcement represents an expansion beyond the original plan for a $2.1 billion facility that would've created 468 jobs.

Earlier this year, Eli Lilly outlined plans to spend at least $27 billion on four new U.S. manufacturing facilities to counter potential tariffs on drug imports.

I like it!

It’s called On-Shoring and it is about damn time we stopped letting the MBAs run this country to the ground with their GLOBALIST DREAMS...because the world doesn’t work that way, that’s why! Things change, just one (big) example: 15 years ago, China was virtually our buddies...now we’re basically enemies. 15 years ago China was great for Rare Earth - they did the dirty work of refining into usable materials for both civilian AND military uses...what could go wrong with China doing 90% of the refining? Now they ration it to the West, and will cut us off if we get too ‘cute’ with them. The West has its own Rare Earth (as Trump calls it), and we know how to refine it. Hopefully Trump is able to get things going here...but it will take us conservatives continuing to vote for REPUBLICANS in November elections, no matter how repugnant they may be. Otherwise the Dems will simply SHUT US DOWN and REPLACE US, as their equivalents are well on the way to doing in Europe and other Western countries.

Well said. Who else would agree?

650 People with their new high paying jobs
1,800 People with construction jobs
Vendors that will do business with the new plant
School and municipal districts from tax revenues

There’s also the potential effect on other areas if the area grows in population and businesses grow in support of them.

Lastly… agree also that we should not be reliant on our adversaries. Hell, we should be careful of our reliance on our allies as well.

“Hell, we should be careful of our reliance on our allies as well.”

Thanks, that was kind of my point...we thought China was ‘our friend’, at least thought that way ‘officially’ - meanwhile they sucking us dry.

As to our ‘allies’ - are they? Do ‘allies’ conspire to destroy a president of another ally? Still have to be careful with those guys...and like you (probably), I would LOVE to see Trump cut Europe loose - bring back our troops, and make them GROW UP and face the world like adults, instead of behaving like the high school troublemaker who’s father is a cop.

Hopefully America’s globalist economic dark ages ( 1988 - 2025) are over.

As Putin observed; “Nations do not have friends, only interests.” Our allies would turn on us if it is in their interest—we can slide from friend to enemy. Remember when France would not join us in the early stage of the Gulf War? Remember when we were dumping French wines down the drain and calling French Fries “Freedom Fries?” France was our oldest ally yet we were ready to come to blows? Today’s friend can become tomorrow’s enemy. England has fought two wars against us in the past and supported the Confederacy in the Civil War (Remember the British Built CSS Alabama).

Off to a good start. To keep drug prices from exploding, domestic production increases must accompany any tariffs.

I don’t live far from there. That area has a zero percent Hispanic population. I will keep an eye on it.

Good. This is exactly what needs to happen. There is no reason why we can’t bring Pharma manufacturing back to the US. We never should have allowed it to leave.

Because industry fleeing the USA was never a law of nature and always an economic policy. Bipartisan until Trump.

H1-B's aren't given to Hispanics, and "local labor" is never what corporate America is looking for, if they can get away with it.
