An ABC News correspondent is getting panned for his bizarre empathetic and gushing interpretation of the text messages between accused Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson and his transgender partner which were revealed Tuesday.
Reporter Matt Gutman breathlessly reported from the Kirk assassination press conference in Utah Tuesday — presenting the deranged killer’s apparent confessional texts as “intimate,” “fulsome,” and “very touching.”
“But, also, it was very touching in a way that many of us didn’t expect,” Gutman stated without coercion of the texts sent just hours after Kirk was killed on Sept. 10.

I wrote over fifty articles for several editors. They all came from colleges. They had strict formulas for how to write a story. One of them, you pick a protagonist and tell the story from their viewpoint. The idea is to generate sympathy/engagement. I almost always wrote technical information. Sometimes the editor would throw in a non sequitur that appeared to be something from another article. When I asked about it, it was intended to promote engagement. When I’d read back to them to show it was nonsense I’d get, “readers don’t know what they’re reading. It sounds good. That’s all they know.” Trust me, when I got reader feedback the readers noticed.
If you’ve ever read anything from the Revolutionary War, you’ll see sudden and misplaced stylized “S’s”. They generally flow over and below the other letters. It was just for “style.” It was “how things are done.” That’s probably why this author tried to make a sympathetic character from a murderer. It’s almost a required fashion statement, like platform shoes, bouffant hairdos or Naru jackets. You just don’t put your writing out without dressing it in the current style.
Wow! So there’s a real formula to the media’s tactics! Should be step number 11 in “Rules for Radicals!”
We all know Robinson is going to be a bigger hero than Luigi once the media gets going here. How pathetic.
The Left’s go-to position is usually, “Take the side of the criminal because he is the victim of the white supremacist system.”
