1) Firing ONLY one shot & it being perfect
2) Eluding capture until at least nightfall that day
I would be willing to bet that this was not this killer’s 1st rodeo, & he may be a “pro.”

I can verify that you need access to the roof. My son had access on his campus as an employee. It was heavily restricted.
It was a well executed shot. It was a head shot that was a little Low But almost perfect Left to right. Why a head shot? Because he might not know if Charlie was wearing a vest and he was very confident in his shooting ability.
A “pro”, maybe not, but close enough.
It was a “HIT” for sure.
The Secret Service does not work these sort of events. Campus cops are the limit of security.

Investigation now saying more about what they know - possibly college aged shooter, escaped on foot, they have the weapon.

Maybe they just weren't expecting this level of violence toward a "powerless" individual at a university. We aren't a militarized or paranoid society.
Yes, That was short sighted. I used to do VIP security 35 years ago when I got out of the Army. We were always scanning building roofs to make sure there wasn’t a sniper and of course close up in the crowds for possible hand guns.
One clue that someone in the crowd has a weapon is that they are wearing a coat and keeping there hands in their pockets on a warm day.
I've frequently pointed out that you guys ambush rather than hunt.
What makes you think a roof is guarded in any fashion? I used to go out on roofs frequently while at college. Access hatches are rarely even locked. We are a Nation at peace. People are pretty laid back.
Mr mm used to HVAC work for many years and he ALWAYS had to get keys from someone to get onto the roof.
And when I was in college, my met class went on the roof at the college that had the meteorology equipment on it, and the prof had to get a key for that, back in 1988.
Most FReepers on this forum have also said that roof access is very typically restricted. So I don’t know where you’re finding all these places where roof access is so available, and I don’t know how long ago you used to do it in college, but it has not been the norm for a long time.

I only found one. I looked for only one.
Roof access is usually through an ordinary door or through a padlocked hatch. There are multitudes of people with lock pick sets and hacksaws. Anyone who was following through with murder plans would not be deterred by mere locks.

Yes, it is in that area with the double row of trees between the buildings. I found it from an image someone else shared in a link from here that showed how many yards it was from that building to the stage. Where they got that image I do not know...
I downloaded it and marked where the known security posts were based on all the videos shared. And they all had direct eyes on the rooftop where the shooter was. So they were either asleep or in on it. There is no way they could miss seeing him from their positions long before the shot.
This was preventable...
FBI guest on fox said the shooter could only see Charlie neck and upper torso. The tent blocked his head.
