There’s a reason Libertarians fail to solve issues. They are the political equivalent of a debating society arguing over how many angels can dance on the head of a pin at one time while sipping tea and congratulating themselves on how astute they are.
I suppose it’s the inevitable result of pursuing an ideology that relies on people acting directly against their human nature to succeed.
Lofty diatribes over how people ought to think and act are fine when trying to persuade people to think and act in a particular way, but they’re utterly worthless (and ultimately dangerous!) when relying on such idealistic behavior for real-world success.
Where collectivists see only an imperative to insert themselves into every possible human interaction, libertarians see a utopian vision of everyone behaving responsibly just because, in the long run, behaving responsibly brings better results.
These are two sides of the same valueless coin. One relies on the certitude of coercion, whereas the other relies on people acting with self-restraint when there is no immediate consequence for doing otherwise.
Senator Rand Paul — a man I’ve long admired — groused about the use of military force against a drug boat full of Venezuelan gang members heading to the United States. The gang is duly designated as a foreign terrorist operation by our federal government.
“I guess it’s hard to have any sympathy for drug dealers trying to import product into our country. But at the same time, you might ask the question: Where does it end? Are we the world’s policeman — the international policemen? Are we going to be blowing people up off the coast all around the world trying to interdict?” said Paul in an interview with Newsmax’s Rob Schmitt.

Senator Rand Paul has no brain so he can’t reason.
The drug problem is terrible in so many of our cities. Aside from every other possible mitigating measure, the supply of dangerous drugs really does need up be constricted.
RE: Senator Rand Paul has no brain so he can’t reason.
How can he have no brains? The man is a practicing opthalmologist and even as Senator, continues to engage in volunteer ophthalmology work, particularly for underserved communities,
and graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in 1988, which is a prestigious institution.
Hitting drug boats with missiles (or ideally much cheaper methods) should be standard procedure, compulsory and systematic.
We are not a democracy if we don’t protect ourselves from evildoers.
Drugs are wreaking havoc in America, it’s a tool of war used by America’s traditional enemies.
Eliminating those who kill the innocents is moral, just and necessary.
I WOULD IMAGINE THOSE ‘UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES’ HAVE ALOT OF DRUG ISSUES..
WONDER HOW HE HAS AVOIDED SEEING SUCH?
I have come to dislike almost every aspect of Libertarianism.
It is for people who want to sit on the sideline, run their mouth, get nothing done, and feel superior.
Yes, unfortunately, Libertarians are starting to resemble flower-power people more and more.
If Libertarians had run America, we would already have been invaded or severely weakened by our traditional foes, China or Russia.
Since Trump is very disappointed with Putin’s irrational warmongering behavior, no wonder he now aims at Putin’s close pal and friend Maduro... :

When I became politically aware of Libertarians, I was open to them. Summed up in one sentence: “They just want to be left alone”, which...I get.
But over time, I found less and less to like about them. At one point, I kind of appreciated Rand Paul speaking out, but now?
I think he is a piece of crap just constantly trying to draw attention to himself.
I feel that way because other than talk, he does squat, and even gets in the way.
RE: no wonder he now aims at Putin’s close pal and friend Maduro... :
Maduro is small fries. The one propping up Russia is the one over which the USA has a huge dependency for critical products and medicines -— CHINA !!
Libertarian’s prime function is to play spoiler in close elections.
To quote Vice President Vance:: “I don’t give a $hit.” Rand might be book smart, but he’s commonsense stupid. He’s nothing but a whiner who votes with the RATS. When he changed his original plan to reject Biden’s electors on January 6th, 2021, and voted to accept them instead, he became persona non grata to me, and will remain so.
Paul just likes to hear himself talk luckily he’s never going to be more than a 4th place in an Iowa primary finish and will never be responsible for the defense of the United States. What a tool
To paraphrase President Reagan
“The problem with our libertarian friends is they know so much that simply isn’t so”
(For the many humorless here: Reagan said liberal)
And try to make the Democrat wins...
Libertarians are evil.
“The one propping up Russia is the one over which the USA has a huge dependency for critical products and medicines -— CHINA !!”
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Yes, evidently you are right on that.
I wouldn’t want to be in Trump’s shoes right now, tough choices ahead...
China is America’s greatest enemy, followed by Russia and Iran.
Unfortunately, China is in a very strong position. America and Europe, we have outsourced our souls, industry and know-how to China - and now it can blackmail us. Like a drug dealer menacing to not give a fix to a drug addict.
We are now dependent on a lot of Chinese stuff we once produced ourselves. We created a monster. Thus, only two things can happen. Either we accept all of China’s demands (including 600.000 Chinese spy-students) and we halt all, or most tariffs we initially were ready to put on them. If that happens, America has capitulated. Game Over.
Or... we decide to resist in earnest, but that is risking a war...
We must descend into a near war situation, or endure continued servitude.
Tough choice for president Trump, because both solutions will cause a lot of suffering. However, suffering under servitude and letting China continue to drug us down with Fentanyl (hundreds of thousands American deaths every year), while China continues to steal all our know-how... is the WORST situation .
Thus, better risking war. Freedom deserves it.
But now to QUOTE President Reagan:
"If you analyze it, I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom - and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is. I think that libertarianism and conservatism are traveling the same path." (1975)
I don't have any "solutions," other than to charge the dealers with the deaths of their customers, but that's no legal picnic either.
“Does that mean we should be blowing up ships all over the world trying to interdict?”
Well, if the ships are known to contain dangerous materials headed for the United States, and are not large container ships, then yes, why not?
If they are container ships suspected (or known) to contain a mixture of dangerous and legitimate cargo, then remove the dangerous goods and investigate to what extent the shipping company knew what was in the container(s), and arrest anyone within U.S. jurisdiction responsible, while encouraging foreign countries to arrest parties on their turf taking part in the activity.
I don’t see it as a challenge to libertarian views, I mean libertarians generally wouldn’t argue that nobody should be arrested after a murder or a bank robbery, so really what’s the difference in this case? The fact that the ships may not be within U.S. territorial waters is immaterial really, if they are headed for a U.S. delivery.
