I’m not very good with a rifle, but everyone around me is excellent. The shortest kill shot after my 75 yards (open sights) was 300 yards, and they continued on out to 600 yards. Every single other deer hunter where I go could make this shot. Me excepted. I suck. ;-)

So, anyone willing to practice as much as a reasonably skilled deer hunter could have pulled this off.

Well over half the male population of North Dakota, for example.

When I went through US Marine Corps Boot Camp back in the day we were hitting the bullseye on targets at 100, 200, 300 and 500 yards with M1 Garands and iron sights.
At 100 yards a Garand with iron sights can easily shoot 2” to 3” groups.
